The saddest thing about the Fallout 3 comparison, is that the PS3 version had so many bugs that the visuals don't even enter it. I had to return my copy for the PS3 and go for the 360 version instead. I've NEVER had to do that before. Beyond that, I'm not seeing huge differences... I'm just glad I can afford both consoles and a PC... as time goes on I think it must be psychosis or envy that fuels these idiot console wars.

I never realized that there were so many Sony and MS stockholders on Gamespot!... because that is the ONLY reasonable explanation for the level of anger and defensiveness flying around here. Seriously, these companies don't need 10 year olds championing them, you can relax, have some milk and a cookie and go to bed already. ENOUGH with this console war ****, and shame on Gamespot for making the cheap ratings grab.

Now THIS... is a damned good article, but as so many others have said, what about Total War? Oh, and stunmayne: you hit the nail on the head.

@jhpiv4: True, but it lowers the standard for the site, and while the initial payout may be sweet, in the long run it hurts credibility. Of course, Crediblity, reputation... this is all that matters when it comes to a review site after all, and squandering that has already hurt gamespot. Face it, if a truly excellent alternative existed GS would shut down with a snap like a moustrap. Gamespot USED to be a one stop shop for reviews... now you have to comb through meta-scores with GS as a semi-reliable marker. It's a pity that so much of the "news" and "features" these days are utterly insubstantial. Frankly, it's the community here that is the most valuble, and it's articles like this one that actively poison that community by firing up its less savoury psycho-fanboy elements. I don't think that helps anyone in the long run.

This... is the kind of needless acrimony I'm talking about. What is the point of expending so much energy defending a game system you have no vested interested in?! It's not as though MS or Sony are going to close shop and leave if you stop foaming at the mouth. Really, Rick Rusty OG has it right... too much hormonal c**p and too little sense.

Gamespot should take the hint from the majority of these comments: Your non-infant customer base has no interest in a fictional console war, that only exists if you can't get both consoles (or a PC) or you have no social life/skills. GS... stop encouraging bad behaviour, take a hint from Gerstmann (whom I generally am not a huge fan of) and Penny Arcade and try to RAISE the bar instead of lowering it.

We are still doing this silliness? I mean, this kind of comparison could be justified when people were still considering which consoles to buy, but with price cuts on both systems, I don't think this does anything except excite obnoxious fanboys and girls. Frankly, they seem to have enough issues out of the gate that I don't see the value in fueling their rants here, or elsewhere. Personally, I have both systems, and they both have strong and weak points. Unless you have a vested interest in Sony or MS or Nintendo... why do you care? Unless one of 'em is paying dividends (and I stay away from such companies in my portfolio) it doesn't really matter because they are both raking in the cash.

Personally, I thought the new E3 was worthless, but then again I would only care if I was an editor who actually went. There are other, better (tokyo!) gameshows out there.. .and with the internet the way it is there is so little need for a massive centralized spectacle. I don't particularly care if a bunch of gamestop reps miss their booth-girl lapdances. I'm a patient person, who likes to PLAY games, not obsess about them. When they come out, I read reviews (previously gamespot reviews) and then make decisions as to what I'll play. Then, I play. THAT is the fun. The rest is dross. I realize it's off topic, but What AnubanUT2 said is pretty damned disturbing. "AnubanUT2 What I find really disturbing is that I asked a question about why there are no black editors for this internet gaming site which is so large and supposedly representative of all gamers and what I recieved was this: "Reason for moderation: Sexually explicit/racist/hate speech and threats Action Taken: Delete Msg - No points were lost for this moderation." Now I would really like one of these Mods to explain to me what part of what I said fits into this definition on any level? It really makes me angry that I was treated in this manner. If anything it makes me wonder who is the "racist" here. Gamespot ... you need to get your act together." That's absolutely nuts. Gamespot may have a tendency to try to shut people up with a heavy hand but that is downright stupid. Why feed notions of racism that could be easily put to rest with a simple response to the tune of "We hire based on qualifications, not race"??? It's not just E3 that is changing... gamespot is in dire need of a general attitude adjustment, from the top down. There may have been the kind of minor issues under Kasavin that any site is going to be bound to endure, but lately things have been slipping terribly.

All of this is nice, except for the fact that Vista is still a buggy mess of a system. By the time Vista is a workable thing, Halo 3 will be out for windows ;)

while I still will likely buy a PS3 when there are the games to justify it, and I would if I lived in europe as well... I can understand why people across the pond are so furious. Most of the anti-sony diatribes have been largely unfounded, but this one is pretty terrible. Pay more, get less, wait longer?! I'm sorry, but that is just insane as a policy for any company in even a semi-global market.
