[QUOTE="n1ntendorevO"]What do you mean by "tried" played wii sports or maybe just wii play or SMG?[QUOTE="0rin"] What exactly is it we are to "understand". I don't like Liver and onions. Does that make me ignorant? I don't like brussel sprouts, am I ignorant? I am not very fond of the color pink, am I closed minded? I don't like the wii, how does this classify me as any more or less ignorant? I say if you've tried it, and didn't like it, then you have the right to claim a valid opinion.0rin
Because the graphics, kiddie, and casual arguements are very very poor.Graphics: Are you seriously saying SMG, Metroid, Punch Out, and other top games do not look good? Punch Out and Boom Blox(latest Wii games) have very good graphics. The graphics arguement is like saying "I dont drive cars that dont have at least 500 horsepower because they are not good cars". It is just a horrible arguement.
Kiddie: Yes, the Wii has a ton of casual sales. Any system that dominates sales as bas as the Wii has will have to have a lot of casual support. The Wii has a lot of good teen and mature games not even considering their other non "kiddie titles".
Casual: What is "Casual" exactly? I for one see Punch Out, Okami, RE4, and a lot of Virtual title content like GhostnGoblins, Ninja Gaiden way more "Hardcore" than Halo, Gears of War, or COD4(and I play a lot of COD4). A kid buys a 360 and the first game they want is Halo 3. Does that make Halo 3 hardcore? That makes no sense. Halo is as Casual as Wii Sports to me. Everyone who has played Wii has played wii sports and everyone who has played 360 has played halo 3. If you are a casual gamer and own a 360 what is one of the few titles you will own on 360? Halo 3.
Alright, I'll go at this on a case by case basis. First, those arguments are not very very poor. They are just all opinion based. There is no such thing as a truly wrong opinion.Graphics: Those games look amazing. For wii games. but I am pretty sure I'm not alone when I say I don't base the wii's graphics on other wii games. I base them against other great games i've played this gen on the other consoles. Whilst you may not see that as fair, I do. Take that up with nintendo. Now that being said, A game doesn't need current gen graphics to be good. Thats why a few wii games are actually fun. but to say that wii in general has good graphics is like saying "my 120 horsepower car can keep up with your 500 horsepower car". It's a futile argument. Graphics never were, and never will be the wii's strong suit, so to try to defend them, or try to bash the wii based on them are both horrible stances.
Kiddie: That is just the wii's projected image. the extremely cartoony mii's, the very family-friendly nature of most first party titles. Yes there are games on the wii that you wouldn't be able to play at sunday school, but for the most part, the games are family friendly. Whilst I feel the "Kiddie" argument is tired, that is just how Nintendo has marketed the console, thus that is just how it will remain to be seen.
Casual: I see it as casual for much the same reason as people call it kiddie. Because it is/was marketed as a family friendly "fun for everyone" console. A console people that don't normally like games could pick up and play. a bad thing? obviously not, looking at the sales charts. But it certainly isn't scoring any points amongst the more hardcore gamers, who prefer games that require reflexes, quick thinking, and/or a heavy devotion (of time, or resources). All consoles have casual games, and not all casual games are bad. In fact, they are usually fun. But most casual games are fun. Halo isn't casual per se. Popular? yes. But if you take, say, your mother, or grandmother, who has never played a video game in their life, and give them the controller and tell them to play this online Halo 3 match, How well do you think they'd do? Now give a seasoned hardcore gamer the controller, even if he's never played Halo 3, and I guarantee you the results would be much better. Casual means many different things to many different people, but now you know what it means to me. And by my definition, the wii is aimed almost directly at casuals, with a side pocket for the hardcore gamers, which I think is wrong, because it throws off the balance, and really, any real hardcore gamers left with only the wii are seemingly starving for content. At least I know I would be.
Ok, at least I am starting to understand soneone else's opinion on here but how would you answer these questions.
You bring up that "Well their are some great looking Wii games but hey don't match PS3/360" Well no kidding but I think you are forgetting something. There are some great looking PS3 games like Uncharted, Killzone 2, etc. which look better than most PS3 games. Seeing as though the PS3 is suppose to be a 10 year consoleare their games going to be able to keep up graphically with the PC with the Crytek and Unreal engines? I would say that they are already starting to lose that battle. I own an Asus 24in LCD1080p with two 8800GT and my PS3 on a samsung 4065F 1080p cannot match it. So, my Wii cannot graphically match my PS3 but my PS3 cannot graphically match my PC(especially in the coming years). Does that make the Wii and PS3 worse? Does that make them unplayable? When are graphics good enough? Will Blu-Ray not be good enough for you in a couple years?
Casuals for me at least go to another level. Its not just the Wii Moms playing WiiFit but its the people who own console and only own a few games that are not only very popular but have a very small learning curve. To me Halo has a very small learning curve and can be picked up and played by almost anyone who has ever held a controller. Starcraft, Unreal Tournament, Ninja Gaiden, wow, and oblivion well not so much. Casuals are the gamers that have just played the tip of the iceberg games(imo).
