Thanks Jess for the report, I think the topic is very interesting, and it covers a wider area than just stealth games, as you said at the beginning when you referred to survival horror too. The fact is that the merchandising of the videogame industry is sacrifising diversity and complexity to fit into delimited parameters that have a solid market. I say it is a sacrifice because gaming cant be just seen as a bussines, it can be mucho more than that and can involve artistic and politic issues and posibilities. The way a good game challenges you has several components, not only the adrenaline and the fun involved in the shooting and killing: the story, the characters, the universe around a game is built and presented, the posibilities it gives you to be creative and the questioning it can put you in. The simplification of the videogame takes away all that to work by the logics of the sales, and is not just what gamers want to consume, is also the research of how to build cheap-simple games the have a highest rentability from the product. Older games, in general (there are exceptions, of course), are much generous and complex. Just compare, for example, Final Fantasy VII with Final Fantasy XIII, or Residen Evil 2 with RE 6, or look for matches for games as Soul Reaver or Alundra. @illegalChronic Your moral just fits in rough conservatism, and conservatism is always censure. Condemnation of topics just makes them be subordinate and confused. The non-understanding of something is how radical and violent thoughts are born. I thing everybody should participate, and if kids read this and other articles in GS, they can have questions instead of doubts and hate. Watch the T.V., read a newspaper: it is everywhere, and it is better being discussed than censored and hidden.
@Brightman55 You can play without caring about political issues in video games, but you cannot control that all games, by making decisions of inclusion-exclusion, for example, are political and contribute to create and recreate the "normality" and the "abnormality".
