First of all, I respect your review, Carolyn. it's decent and to the point, and as I thought there would be nothing new to this game but it's quite difficult to add to an already perfect and mastered game. there is no room for change and modification here
The combat is perfect the way it is. so how to add to it? maybe some new types of thugs is the only thing they can do even adding gadgets wouldn't feel right because he is a a more "raw" batman. maybe change his moves a little bit to be more aggressive, more of a vigilante.
the environment, well, i think i agree with you. what does a greater world mean if it's dull and offers nothing but more buildings to glide to and from? yes, i want a vivid city, full of people and cars going here and there, active crimes etc.... . I don't know how it looks like because i haven't played the game yet. but if it's nothing but a bigger Arkham city then that would be a huge disappointment.
this situation kinda reminds me of Assassin's creed series. the first installment was great. everyone loved it. it was serious, atmospheric and fresh. Altair was THE assassin. then came Ezio and ACII it was a success with more positive changes, a fresh protagonist and good story, then came one after another adding absolutely nothing to the franchise or better yet derailing from the original game until it became about pirates and naval combat.
actually the positive thing here about Origins is that it stayed true to its roots. WB tried to innovate but eventually they stuck to the original concept of the game, they knew they are not Rocksteady and that Batman fans loved Rocksteady and their excellent Arkham games so they did their best and I think the game is quite decent.
I wish i could see such a great level of visual fidelity as soon as possible. I am not going to start a tedious war here but i wish there is a game out there that can utilize the full potential of PC hardware, even if I can't afford such hardware. I don't care. I want to see what a game putting GTX titan, GTX 690 or R290x to their knees would look like, taking into consideration that this game is built from scratch for PC hardware that is using every single PC feature correctly and efficiently. I want devs to push the boundaries of gaming as hard as they can even if i can't afford following them ... I want to behold the glory even if i am not a part of it.
