topics like these are silly imo, no your not the only one to not like mgs seris/4, and most of the stuff you about negative is wrong, no tropies? game came before tropies were introduced, plot is only muddle if you didn't play the previous games (hint why it's called mgs4 and not mgs1) controls are fine, stealth is a viable way to beat the game until chapter 4 and beyond where it turns more action, mgs games and rpg consist of cutscenes as well, you should know this before playing the game, character movement is solid imo. some of things you said are your opinion, but some of things you said are off by alot.wizdom

For the hundredth time I mentioned no trophies because some one told me about getting a platinium on it.

And I did mention that "the story can probably be only decoded by long time fans of the series". "Controls are fine" "Character movement is solid"??? lol good arguments or should I say solid arguments lol. No games have as many cutscenes and/or such long running and boring ones, period. And MGS4 is not an RPG it just had some elements of it. nevermind.

I dont think anyone would argue that the cutscenes weren't too long. The game badly needed a proper editor. That Naomi scene is indeed the perfect example. It should've been a five minute scene at best, thirty minutes is too long. The mission briefings should also have been 5 minutes max. It seems like the characters just go on and on with the exposition, lots of needless repititive plot details.

That said, MGS stories have always been weird and silly. In MGS3, there was a guy with a lizard tongue and another guy who shot bees out of his mouth. MGS2 had Otacon sleep with his step-mother, his step-sister wanting to f*** him, and his dad killing himself after finding out his son slept with his wife. lol That's MGS for you. Not to mention a villian who could talk to wolves.

If it wasn't you, it was someone else in this thread.... i definitely read something about his walking being too japanese. i was like wtf. MW does not allow you to turn over while you are prone and shoot the guy behind you, roll over on the ground like an action hero and it definitely doesnt allow you to move and shoot in third person. What I meant by the Uncharted comment was like the Drake in Uncharted controls differently than Snake in MGS4. It's hard for me to explain because someone else explained it to me a while ago, but the camera and character movement is seperate in a game like MGS, where as in Uncharted, moving the right along stick in a certain direction would make Drake look in that direction, not the case in MGS. That's how they've always controlled.

My first time playing through the game, i also felt like i wasn't playing the game the right way. It felt too open, and too action oriented so I can see why you would think its not stealth friendly. But the game gives you a lot of tools to play it stealthily if you want. It's just that the whole concept of sneaking around has been changed due to the massive levels and warzones, it might seem a lot tougher to go the sneaking route with all hell breaking lose around you but the levels are very stealth friendly with multiple routes. You can easily avoid conflict altogether. You'd be surpised to find new routes, and even new areas in multiple playthroughs.

Holy crap man that is some twisted story. Wow I mean seriously Wow, I am just shocked, I had an idea it was weird didn't know, it redefined weird. lol. Thank god I didn't play the first ones lol.

Ya man I didn't write that about his walking being Japanese lol but that is funny as hell . I guess it takes a little getting used, the controls specially since I didn't play the last ones. But I just felt awkward with the whole take down thing I felt the same awkwardness with Killzone 2's cover system it just seemed weird. Thanks for correcting me I haven't play mw in a long time.

You just wrote exactly what I felt, you know even though there is a openess feel to all the levels I still tried to play very stealthily using playboy magazines and stuff which takes a lot of time, which is fine but add to that the cutscene running time and I felt like I had to rush otherwise I would grow old playing this lol. But I do get your point and I did find new routes one of the few things I really liked about this game were the alternatives, yet since the levels are soo big I just wanted more cause it would have been really cool if there were some more options available.

But I still think this game is way overhyped.

First save: Chapter 7 :)

It'll be annoying getting there, but it'll make the rest of it a breeze. I'm thinking about using my last save right at the eye poke machine. Weapons: Plasma Cutter, Force Gun, Pulse Rifle, and maybe Seeker Rifle. I use the Zealot Suit most of the time, I'll upgrade to the advanced engineering suit closer to the end just for the additional storage.

Wow man nice first save in Chapter 7. I was thinking the same just before the eye poke would be a good place, but I think I would have to restart the game and try to save on 7 or something first.

My recommendation would be, don't carry soo many weapons, as normally you would use two the most and maybe three. By carrying two weapons only, you get a lot of ammo for both and I think also extra med packs.

How is the force gun? I actually haven't played with it too much since it doesn't kill the enemies just blows them away.

But I strongly recommend the detonator with this you can actually plan out your fight plan, too bad I realised this and learnt to use it effeciently way later, things could have been a lot more simpler. you can just one on the respawn area and mostly never have to worry about that side. Also when fighting against a lot of them together coming from all sides the detonator can be used to cover your back.

I was really close to Chapter 7. I would be done with Hard Core by now but I put the game on hiatus to play Dragon Age II. I'm going to try again and I think I'll be able to have it done relatively quickly.

I was thinking the same thing. I mostly used 3 weapons during my 3 playthroughs, almost always the Plasma Cutter, Force Gun, and Pulse Rifle. I like the Seeker Rifle, but I was thinking about carrying the Contact Beam just so ammo will pop up more frequently and I can sell the ammo for money.

The Force Gun is awesome. It actually one hit kills things if you let them get close enough to you. Treat it like a shotgun, but also keep it around for those moments where you need breathing room. Plus, the secondary fire is nice for when you need a bit more precision. I have the Collector's Edition, so I get access to the Zealot Force Gun at the first store for 0 credits. Kind of makes me feel like I'm cheating, haha.

I love the Detonator and I'm in the same boat of realizing its potential way too late. I did a 3rd playthrough to prep for Hard Core and get all the trophies, one of which getting kills with all the weapons and there really isn't a weak link this time around. In Dead Space 1, I found the Flamethrower borderline useless, but it kills rather efficiently in 2. The Detonator made fighting Stalkers just funny, but I know me and I'd probably lay a mine, get flanked and try to run and hit my own freaking mine. So I won't be using it during Hard Core.

Bummer man I hate it when that happens, most of the times I died in the hard core mode was because I lost a little concentration or something and died very cheaply. How are you liking dragon age 2? haven't played it yet, I have a problem unless I finish one game completely I can't for some reason move to another one its weird.

Thanks for the info on the Force Gun I will definitely try it out. Oh thats why I was wondering how'd you get the force gun so early lol.

lol ya it did happen to me a couple of times, I was like 10 feet away from the mine still I died for some reason. I haven't really played the first one but the flamethrower uses up a lot of ammo, but I think it has a lot of potential for being a room cleaner.

let me know how it goes when you attempt it again.

1. So then it's all about the gadgets? I think you have the wrong misconception of what stealth means, look it up in the dictionary.

2. So you admit are saying that just because it's not an user friendly game like the inferior splinter cell, it's not as responsive? Did it ever occur to you that not every game needs to be the same or play similar. In that case God of war is crap compared to Devil may cry and Ninja gaiden due to it not being as in depth.

3. So you like exposition? Not everyone likes this, and mostly people hate it. Next time friend, play the first 3, before passing judgement. Neither godfather 2 or 3 have "books" that need to be read, or videos like you say.

4. Then do not mention it in the first place.

5. God of War has a simplistic story line, and it's also a short game. How are you going to compare mgs4, to a game that obviously doesn't bother with the story (only disappointing part in god of war 3, was its story).

6. You do realize that it wants to blend? Not every game has to be it's single genre, just like a movie doesn't have to be Drama, it could be A Drama-Thriller, with parts of Mystery.

7. Are you aware that your not the only soul in this earth? Just because your not into intelligent, non liner, non action, non mindless button mashing games. Does not mean that MGS4 shouldn't be hyped to God status. You don't understand it, but many people do.

And lastly if your not into Japanese drama, then can you explain to me why you even bothered with the game. Did someone tell you that it was all action or something, which once again is my point of... you should have played the previous games before even dealing with MGS4. Your whole argument is really worthless... maybe except for the cut-scene thing, which in that case it only an opinion.

PalmPixi

1. Read carefully before answering "when all the equipment and gadgets and levels are designed for stealth" didn't say it was all about gadgets. But tell me one thing why does he have a nano suit that can camaflouge to anything, if not for stealth? to look cool? another thing why does the game award you more points if you play stealthily rather than slam bam.

2. I don't know what you are talking about. but I didn't say it had to play like any other game I just said the controls could have been made more responsive also his movement parameters given in the game are quite awkward doesn't feel smooth. In which case is God Of War crap?? Control?? it had awesome fluid control what are you talking about.

3. Ok I don't think you are reading the whole sentences. I am not judging the whole series (hence I am gonna try out mgs3 suggested to me by a person here) what I said was that they could have put a little animated movie to catch you up to the story from the previous parts in MGS4 so that people like me who hasn't played the past parts can get head or tail of something. God father 2 and 3 both are videos and are sequels how the hell do you possibly connect god father and mgs?? and what are you talking about??? god father is a movie that can be watched in any dvd player or pc or whatever, mgs series ranges from ps1 I think to ps3. I don't think anyone would be consoles to play a single series.

5. God of War is a very story driven series, either you haven't played it or you didn't get it. And the story is simply amazing. Ok simply put God of war 3 $33million Day 1 Sales Metal gear Solid 4 day 1 sale is $1.3 million. See the difference? both are story driven, both were ending the series (in terms of Mgs4 the last of Snake), see which one people wanted to know the ending to more? 33 million compared to 1 million enough said. But its not about God Of War 3 vs MGS4 so I will not continue that conversation here.

6. As you said Drama, Thriller and parts of Mystery all these do go together. but if you try to make a action, thriller, drama and comedy it just turns weird.

7. lol MGS4 is intelligent? you can run straight through the game, very intelligent, there are no puzzles again very intelligent, point gun and shoot wow, buy ammo at will, amazing, the best game ever 10 10 10 10 lol NON LINEAR??????????? LOL hmm I think I have been debating invain, my apologies.

And lastly because it didn't say "MGS4 A JAPANESE MELO-DRAMA WITH CHEESE PUFF FRUITY ACTION" on the box hence I got it.

Nevermind friend, to whose his own.

I was going to continue this discussion, but you write way to much, hence you beat me. My point is, as you said. To each his own. Everyone has a different way of seeing things, and even as you didn't like mgs4, there are many others who do. That does not mean you should try to make things as facts, or not respect gamespot's, or anyone elses opinions.

Ok just to get a couple of things clear didn't mean to show my opinions as fact, only wanted to say the ranking for this game is derived from extreme hype and fanatics of the series, in simple words no way it deserved a 10 in my opinion.

You are not the only one. A lot of people dont care for it.

However, playing the fourth game in the series and saying I didn't understand the plot is a hilarious complaint. It's like watching Return of The King and asking why must this ring be destroyed? MGS4 is one of the few games out there that actually tries to answer every single unanswered question from the first three games. Kojima's biggest accomplishment with MGS4 was that he actually managed to tie up every loose end in this game, in fact, it was tying up everything that made some fans of the series question the plot of this game. Regardless, explaining things is something MGS4 does best, you should've probably watched a summary of previous games on youtube or something.

I dont know what's so japanese or constipated about Snake walking either. In fact, the controls are the best in the series. It is the only game out there that allows you to shoot and move from both the first person and third person view. It's the only game out there that has a full melee combat set along with shooting controls. It's still the only game out there that allows you to go prone, turn and roll on the ground. You can shoot in almost any position. No other game does that. Controls are one of the best things about MGS4, you just have to get used to them. If you are expecting it to control like Gears of War or Uncharted then you will have issues, but Snake has always controlled differently.

Yes, half of the game is cutscenes and the plot is kinda farfetched and a bit too melodramatic, but that's Metal Gear Solid. Every MGS game has long cutscenes and absurd stories, MGS4 probably has more overall cutscenes than the previous games but it doesnt have any codec sequences so it kinda evens out. Anyway, long cutscenes + absurd japanese melodrama= Metal Gear Solid. Sorry, but if you are playing the fourth game in the series, it is mostly going to be fan service at this point.

I dont get the argument about Stealth? What were you expecting? The game gives you a number of tools to play the game stealthily, you can play through the whole game without killing anyone. You have a great camouflage suit, a cloaked robot that can take out enemies, a whole range of silenced weapons, smoke/chaff/stun grenades, CQC, playboys, militia suit, and many more. How is the stealth non-existant? I swear some people just make up stuff nowadays.

The MGS4 database is just an extra, a bonus, nothing more. You are not required or expected to read it, it didn't come with the manual, it's not included in the game, it's just an extra on PSN and it's just for fans. You are obviously not one, it's not for you.

Also, i dont think RPG ammo was that cheap. I wouldve used it on the bosses if it was. i havent played the game in a while but RPGs were expensive in this game. But yeah, the unlimited ammo for regular weapons did make the game a bit easy.

Still people talking about running from point A to B, eating up rations. Play the game on harder difficulties if you are looking for a challenge. Let's see how far you can go eating up rations on Big Boss. MGS4 is one of the most challenging games ever made, for a guy into trophies, you should've played this game on one of the harder difficulties.

S0lidSnake

Atleast when you watch or read Return of the King, you will understand why they want to destroy the ring, and the power of the ring atleast you will get that. The thing is whichever game I play I give them a lot of effort and chance to impress me, ofcourse there were lots of things in the game that did impress me but the things that depressed me where far more. The long cut scenes would have been fine if it had something going on in them for example the snake and the doctor chick conversation it could have been summarised to 5 mins at best yet they pulled on for about 15 min I think needlessly.

Also I didn't say Snake walked in a Japanese way lol where did you get that? I meant he always walks bent and when you stop he is straight as an arrow. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Modern Warfare allow you to shoot from which ever position you are in?? But I wasn't talking about what he could or couldn't do, I was talking about the buttons not being as responsive as I would have liked, it doesn't mean I was expecting it to be like Uncharted or anything else.

I get it that it was more of a fan service, but at least a better story could have made up for the long cut scenes, I just didn't like the story it was too weird and silly for my taste.

I was expecting more options and things you could do with all those gadgets instead of having a cigarette, I wanted the environment to be more interactive, this was a major reason I didn't like the game. The setting was there the gadgets and abilities but only if they could have given more options for interaction with the environment. Also just having items "a cloaked robot that can take out enemies, a whole range of silenced weapons, smoke/chaff/stun grenades, CQC, playboys, militia suit, and many more"doesn't make it a stealth friendly game, the levels are designed in a weird way, it wasn't always stealth friendly. The problem with the game I thought was it didn't know what it wanted to be at most points at other points it was just Japanese melo drama.

I wasn't talking about running from point a to b but it is possible, and I did play it in hard difficulty, but I just lost interest after a while there were a few missions I enjoyed more or less a few bosses I liked but the rest well nevermind. But it is overhyped and has too many faults and lackings to get a 10 on any ranking let alone all of them. And just to get things straight I am not a trophy guy I like the challenge in the game and some of the trophies in some games are a challenge to get so I do 'em, otherwise don't really give a damn.

Lets share our strategies to play it the best way, to make things a little easier.

Alright I started playing the Hard Core Mode a few days ago. And this is the strategy I am using so far.

I used my first save in Chapter 3 and the second one just before the elevator in Chapter 6 (although I died the first, I still think I should have saved in Chapter 8 or 9 instead).

I am using the Forged Engineering Suit, using the pulse gun and the detonator as the only two weapons and the rig, stasis and the pulse gun are almost updated to the max.

Now from Chapter 6 when I load I have gone as far as 12 and 10 of the two times I sat down to play. Both times I died cheaply when I lost concentration. And both the times I died when I shot the stupid yellow vile carrying sack bag. Which is very annoying, but I will give it a run in tonight again. I am planning on using my last save on chapter 14 but that would take a lot of luck on tight spaces.

What are you guys using?
