Thats all Sony does is buy big publishers. Just look at Spider-man, you think they didnt pay for that crap?

Insomniac is a development comany, not a publisher, they were not a big team and Sony worked with them for decades before buying them.

It's a shame what has happened to Playstation's first party lineup. Anytime you bring up how heavily cinematic and watered down they are Playstation fanboys deny it despite praising their games for being like that. When this trend of cinematic third person action adventure games started taking over the PS4 first party lineup I remember cows like Quadknight saying it is okay that Sony is only focusing on that because 3rd parties can handle multiplayer games and other genres. That definitely backfired with Microsoft buying some of the biggest 3rd party developers and IPs. Now Sony has no exclusives in those genres that can compete with them because they axed almost every studio that wasn't making cinematic 3rd person action adventure games and are now focusing more of their resources on live service games to make up for their one trick pony lineup.

I can't help but think the gaming media is biased towards Sony. I played some of the most recently praised modern Playstation exclusives. While they aren't bad games I couldn't help but notice major flaws that would definitely be brought up in reviews if they were Xbox exclusives but were swept under the rug because of the Playstation label and how much influence Sony has with their popularity.

Very true. At the same time, the messaging from the media is what Sony and its devs are adhering to. With no meaningful critique, they will continue to produce the same games to nauseam. Not bad games, just samey.

I agree with you here, Sony movie games is popular right now so many reviewers are jumping on the bandwagon to praise them, but I think this is much worse for Nintendo especially their well known franchises. Sony really tried A LOT of things back in the PS3 days, I kinda liked that (even if they do something like DriveClub and failed) at least they're trying something different. More variety. But I guess they found out making blockbuster movie games gets them the most cash so all they're doing is that now.

While a high score is good SW ammo, harsh critiques makes a dev. better, which is what matters.

With Microsoft slapping cash in big publisher's face some people and analysts think Sony needs or will buy publishers to defend themselves but I think otherwise.

I think they just need to buy smaller developers they already work with, give them resources and nurture them into bigger (or better) companies. They have been doing this for decades this happened with Naughty Dog and Insomniac and now they have Bend and Bluepoint trying to make even better games.

I know a lot of developers have closed down, but you win some you lose some, that's just life.

Sony already publishes a lot of games, publishing means a lot more than moneyhatting like a lot of people think. Quality control, deadlines, advertising etc. sometimes even go as far as co-development, or sharing resources like Guerrilla sharing their engine with Kojima Productions.

The list of developers I think is good for them to aquire are: Quantic Dream (Detroit), Kojima Production (But Kojima said he doesn't want to), Thatgaamecompany (Journey), Arrorhead (Helldivers) and Team Ninja.

The funny thing

Why should Bathesda bother making a proper game when they can half-arse it and let the people who buy the game finish it for them?

The funny thing is, StarField would have had a 92+ Metascore and a 9 Gamespot score if it launched 4 weeks ago with mods insteaad of 6 weeks ago. But that's just how it works.

People are already modding the hell out of it, a month ago.

Not just better models, graphics, performance, but there will be any content you can think of.

Look at what they did to Skyrim.

Sorry Xbox users, you're stuck with......."Starfield".

Sony fannies love their Phil. They are the ones that dedicate threads to the man.😂

Comes into thread, makes remark on "Sony Fannies", not contribute to anything...but what did we expect.

My contribution is always equal to the OP. 🙃

I can imagine playing a horror game in the dark using surround sound headphones. That'd be scary af.
