Which is the right console for racing games? (As 8th generation era)

Here is my guide to which console is the best choice for racing games?

Well it depends on which sub-genre of racing game you prefer the most.

1. If you're more into Racing Simulators: I'd highly recommended Xbox One or Playstation 4.

  • First parties:
    • Xbox One has Forza Motorsport 5, 6 and 7.
    • Playstation 4 has Gran Turismo Sport.
    • Nintendo Switch has None.
  • Third party multiplats:
    • Assetto Corsa, Project Cars 1 & 2, DiRT Rally & 4, WRC, Formula 1, MotoGP and MXGP.
    • The only racing sims for Switch are pretty much MotoGP, MXGP and Grid Autosport.

For sim racing: it's mainly aimed towards car lovers and racing fans who would love to experience real professional motorsport racing virtually as they enjoy watching motorsports either on TV Live or in person at race course!

    • How this sub-genre works? this simulates on how the real street or race car feels like when players driving their virtual car on real race courses like Silverstone, United Kingdom for example. Having real world variables like damage if you crash, tire condition wearing out, fuel usage and suspension settings.
    • Also players car modify their street cars in Forza and Gran Turismo to match for the event regulations.
    • Types of modifications on cars such as engine (headers, turbo, pistons, cpu, radiator, oil, etc.) and handling (suspension, tires, ride height, and weight reduction).

Types of Auto Racing examples:

    • Sports Car Racing (Blancpain GT Series, LeMans, Super GT)
    • Touring Cars (V8 Supercars, DTM, World Touring Car Championship)
    • Formula Racing (Formula 1, Indy Car)
    • Stock Car Racing (Nascar)
    • Rallying (World Rally Championship, Rally America, FIA World Rallycross Championship).

2. If you're more into Street Racing: I'd strongly recommended Xbox One over Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

  • First parties:
    • Xbox One has Forza Horizon 2, 3 and 4.
    • Playstation 4 has Driveclub.
    • Nintendo Switch has None.
    • Nintendo's newest street racing game is Cruis'N Blast for the arcades, I've played that in my local arcades and it's totally fun!
  • Third parties:
    • The Crew 1 & 2, Need For Speed Rivals, 2015 and Payback.
    • But for the Nintendo Switch it has 2 third party exclusive street racing games are Gear.Club Unlimited 1 & 2.
    • For Gear.Club, I've played it on my mobile phone before and it's a good game for car lovers though.
  • For street racing: it's for those who love watching their favourite street racing fiction or car documentary shows in media.
    • How this sub-genre works? Players can drive their cars to perform and showing their driving skills as they dominate in street racing against their opponents in urban and rural environments or perform stunts like driving onto the ramps.
    • Ability to upgrade their car's engine (headers, turbo, pistons, cpu, radiator, oil, etc.) and handling performance (suspension, tires, ride height, and weight reduction).
  • Examples in car media:
    • British car documentary shows like Top Gear, The Grand Tour and Fifth Gear.
    • Anime/Manga like Initial D and Wangan Midnight.
    • Hollywood films like Fast & Furious and Need For Speed 2014 movie.

3. If you're more into Kart racing: I'd 100% recommended Nintendo Switch over Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

  • First parties:
    • Nintendo Switch has Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
    • Playstation 4 has None.
    • Xbox One has None.
    • Playstation and Xbox's last kart racing IP are LittleBigPlanet Karting and Kinect JoyRide respectively, after end of 7th generation home console era both of them were killed off by Sony and Microsoft.
  • Third party multiplats:
    • Beach Buggy Racing, Team Sonic Racing, All-Star Fruit Racing and Nickelodeon Kart Racers
  • For kart racing: It's for those who wanted to have fun playing games in general but not required to be a fan of racing games.
    • How this sub-genre works? this features cartoon like characters driving on their go karts at fantasy race tracks, the rules are to pick up items and attack on their opponents or use it for defence to take advantage to win the race.

4. If you're more into Futuristic racing: It's either Nintendo Switch or Playstation 4.

  • First party:
    • Nintendo Switch has Fast RMX (I'm guess this might be Nintendo's IP by judging the previous instalments were exclusively on the Wii and Wii U, it's developed and published by Shin'en Multimedia).
    • Playstation 4 has WipEout Omega Collection (2 remastered WipEout games: HD and 2048, running on 60 FPS).
    • Xbox One has None.
    • To me Nintendo should bring F-Zero back one day!
  • Third parties:
    • Xenon Racer, Riptide GP2, Riptide GP Renegade, Redout, Grip Combat Racing, Rise Race Of The Future.
    • Xbox One's only 3rd party exclusive futuristic title is Quantum Rush: Champions.
  • For futuristic racing: It's for those who love science fiction and wanted to experience the excitement of futuristic high speed adrenaline in fast cars or what ever vehicles.
    • How this sub-genre works? this type of racing game requires fast reaction especially approaching towards the tight corners, dodging or blocking your opponents plus saving enough boost power to use and cross the finish line at first place.
