To take one example, the creation of a yearly development cycle for Assassin's Creed really hurt the series in my opinion. The first game had great potential, two was a big leap forward, but three felt like there was no progress and it was just more of the same. One thing people have been neglecting in this thread is that it's not just technological/gameplay developments, it's also story and narrative development. It takes authors several years to write good plots, and putting a one-year crunch on a developer tests out not just the programmers and the artists, but also the writers.

I liked it quite a bit actually, it was repetitive and flawed, but incredibly immersive and big and a total blast at times. I wish they just ditched the multiplayer for integrated co-op though, which would have fit in nicely.

The genre is a little disappointing because games keep getting shorter and shorter, and there is very little innovation from year to year -- especially with the landscape dominated by COD. FPS are still fun, but they are not at the forefront of gaming by any means.

Games have been $60 for the last 20 years. The experience a game from today offer versus years ago is huge. Gaming has never been more worth your money. Only when a good game gets dumbed down & made into a inferior game do i believe its not worth my money

Also games technically arent $60. They only $60 when they release & from there price only goes down. Buy the game at what ever price you feel comfortable at.

With that said though people buy movies at any where from $20 to $30. So say an Hour & 30 minute movie is worth $20 to people? Then if a game is $60 & is 4 & a half hours it should be worth $60?

Since people never complain about movies being too much you could argue that a game that is 5 hours long is worth $60 ( since technially its no more expenisve in terms of hours out of the product & money invested ).

The fact that games are interactive also add in much more value in my opinion. Games are expensive yea but so is any hobby. Are they overpriced for what your getting? No. Not at all, especially when you compare them to movies you see they are of better value.

I completely agree with this. As a side-note, it's silly to ask whether a game is worth $60 in the abstract. Different people, with different amounts of money, will value games at different amounts. For some people, a nice brunch at a ritzy hotel is worth $50 a person -- is it "worth" $50? Maybe not to you or me. And for some people, a game might be worth $60, or $80, or $100. I would probably pay $100 for the experience I received the first time I played through Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic or Halo: CE, for instance. On the other hand, there are a lot of games that aren't worth more than $20 to me, even if I found them pretty enjoyable (e.g., Killzone 2).

I'm also really interested in this game after checking out reviews and word-of-mouth . . . My 360 broke years ago, but for the first time since then I'm starting to contemplate getting a replacement. I've now missed Halo: Reach, Gears of War 3, and The Witcher 2. The last might be the straw that broke this camel's back.

Looks intriguing. My 360 broke a few years back, but I might get one to play Halo 4 and a few other titles I've missed (Reach, Gears of War 3).
