sometimes they might try justify the ridiculous price as 'having done a deal with the retail stores so as not to undercut their price, thus the retail store accepts to stock their game' reality though is that the developer/publisher can charge more for longer before dropping the price, pay much less in distribution and publishing costs AND eliminate the 'unholy second hand sales market'!!! GTA III was over rated even upon release, it was a step in the right direction for the GTA franchise but thats all it had going for it, a step into 3D, I cannot say it has had a influence on the way games are made, maybe there are more GTA clones.
