The new release of NMS looks interesting and possibly fun.
I would likely play on XBox

I played Ark Survival and what I ran into was that some players had been playing so long that they had become dominant. Sometimes this was helpful; but, other times it took a lot of fun out of the game because you couldn't play it "fresh". Often much of the best locations and best resources were already mined and dominated by these early players.

How is that for NMS?

Are there are a lot of existing dominant players?

Do existing players affect the game play?

l'll have to see what I can find among our games to test the controller.

No we don't have GTA. Our boys are 6yo and 8yo.

Our PS2 is about 2years old so it is probably the newest design. At the most it gets used about 8 hours a week. Fortunately the boys would rather play outside if it is a nice day.

Regarding repair, that was not my primary thought but is possible. I am pretty proficient at that. I repair a lot of stuff that most people would never consider repairable. I have a BS and MS in EE and am a lead software and systems design engineer. To me making things work or figuring how someone else designed it to work is often more fun than playing with it. I was the kid that when his dad asked him to mow the lawn later found that he had disassembles the lawn mower because something "didn't sound right" (and/or didn't really want to mow the lawn). But.. I did get it back together and did get the lawn mowed. On a component like this, the two main keys to fixing them are usually: 1) having a way to test it (tell broken from fixed) and 2) figuring out how to get it apart without destroying it.

Help!

My son says that MLB07 and MLB08 on our PS2 sometimes "locks up". I now think that it may be that the L3 button is broken on one of our controllers and so when you get to one of the screens you can't exit. Is there any sort of diagnostic screen like you find for a PC controller/joystick/mouse where you can push all the buttons and move all the analog controls to see if everything works? Very few games use all of the buttons on the controller and even if they do it is really hard to know for sure if the button is ignored on a screen or is intermittent.
