This is just not true. A modded 360 is nothing more than a bios flashing of the ROM drive (the unit needs to be opened though which voids the warranty). A modded 360 can still take updates and be connected to Live. Microsoft will try from time to time to black list people...but there will be someone waiting with a new version of the bios.
