I didn't agree with some of the design decisions of Dragon Age 2, however, at least it felt like a fresh gaming experience compared to the original. ME3 looks like ME 2.5 with added MP, annoying day-one DLC and with some obvious attempts at trying to bring in a wider audience. I have a couple of friends who have been playing it this week and that are already bored with it...simply because they find it boring....too similar to ME2. Talk to people, try to gain their trust and loyalty by doing side missions in order for them to join your team....the end result to build a team to help with the main crysis. Sounds a lot like ME2....
I read some of the comments in this article thread and it's a sad, sad world that we live in. I would LOVE to see Bioware pursue these clowns in court...
I have to say this...I've seen Gamespot give average review scores for some of the flaws mentionned in DA2...like the blatant re-occuring environments throughout a game yet, this seems to have been overlooked in DA2. Now I see what I feel is a PR piece rather than objective journalism.... hmm...this is suspect at best. Just saying.... I call it like I see it. Let's hope they don't rush Mass Effect 3.
@texasgoldrush - there's nothing original about Dragon Age II.... let's take DAO, steamline it and "dumb it down" like Mass Effect 2 et voila.... DA2 is created. And don't get me wrong, I loved Mass Effect 2 but as an adventure game and a third person shooter. For a fantasy RPG like Dragon Age Origins, my expectations for the sequel was to get a similar experience to the original. But you prove my point...you can't take a game like DAO, which was loved by many and then completely change the sequel, without getting a reaction from the fans of RPGs and the original Dragon Age. Makes sense doesn't it? The reaction of RPG fans is completely normal...and in the meantime, they have probably gained the attention of gamers that wouldnt typically look at a "traditional RPG"...because it's not an RPG...far from it.
@Gelugon_baat - if this was truly Bioware's intentions for re-using environments, then there's a good reason why I will be skipping Dragon Age II and at this rate, maybe Mass Effect 3. What I look for is objective reporting and that question needed to be asked.
@texasgoldrush - that argument, like many others you posted, makes no sense whatsoever... You can't tell me that the story in Dragon Age 2 is better, because it makes no sense...the narrative is by a character that wasn't even there to see it. Secondly, the whole point is that DAO was much more of an RPG in the traditional sense and the sequel seems like the answer to the "fast food, instant gratification, low attention span" group of gamers that is out there. If all RPGs went this route, the genre wouldn't exist any longer. Dragon Age II is more of an adventure game than RPG.
@Shardz7 - I agree with you 100%. We saw streamlining with Mass Effect 2...we're seeing it again with Dragon Age II. Here's the thing...and let's be honest...streamlining and RPG means it's become an adventure game. The story telling is great but without the RPG elements...where's the RPG? Origins was fantastic and had a really great story...and it had amazing RPG elements. Why make the change? To reach a broader audience? Well, here's one RPG fan that is not going to pick it up.
