1. The platform holder and developer are one and the same in many, many cases. To play Halo Infinite on Xbox or Splatoon 3 on Switch, I must pay. You think that's a co-incidence? Older Halo and Splatoon games had FREE split screen, the newer ones do not, hmmm....

2. They are mass-advertised, mass-produced, FOMO features that can only be applied to online games. You cannot sell skins in Goldeneye or season passes in Halo 1.

3. You claiming "the gaming populous don't care for it" is also an absolutely baseless anecdote. "The numbers show" - What numbers, specifically? What do they show?

4. I meet my friends, family and partners at the pub for drinks. I meet my friends, family and partners at the console for games. Both are social, in person hang out venues. Simple concepts ;)

And I'm pointing out the obvious that 2 million people bought Wii Music, Driveclub and Knack, but those games all suck and no one cares about them on here either?

Trash sells sometimes, and well done to Sonic for the loyal autism fanbase, but his games really do suck, hard.

Saying no-one cares about Sonic is factually false. Simple concepts.

Lol. Yes, agreed, a number of humans greater than 0 care about Sonic. You win ;)

Glad you concede to the basics that 2 million is greater than 0.😎

If only System Wars had greater than 200 (20?) people to argue further XD

I never really got into Futurama. Saw some of the jokes, though, and they were funny. My excuse is that it never went into such broad syndication like the Simpsons when I was growing up. Now I just wouldn't know where to start... there's a lot of episodes.

Original 4 season run. Season 1 is a bit wobbly (like many Season 1's), 2 - 4 are as solid gold as the Simpsons at it's peak IMO.

The various reboots are fine but feel like latter day Simpsons, ie skippable.

Has it not been revamped multiple times already? Cool though, I guess.

Developers don't charge to play their games online with the exceptions of select MMORPGs.

First parties (Nintendo, Sony, MS) do in fact all charge for online, split screen is always free. Their online only games are ways to incentivisze you to pay to play online.

@Pedro said:

Things like season-passes, DLC, expansions, skins, etc can exist with or without the presence of split-screen.

These are all online exclusive though. Goldeneye didn't have them. Halo 1 didn't have them.

@Pedro said:

Anecdotal evidence is pretty useless. It is akin to me saying, "The vast majority of gamers I've met in my decades of gaming have all loved playing exclusively online and hate splitscreen." That is not a reflection of gamers, just a limited point of view.

Anecdotes aren't data, but you don't have data either, so...

Clubs and pubs are literally meeting locations. That is a terrible analogy. 🥴

Split screen gaming is literally a meeting location for me and the people I love (family, friends, partners) for decades. It is a wonderfully perfect analogy ;)

This site could be bursting with life and people still wouldn't care about the billionth shit Sonic game...

(sells 2 mil copies)

Is that meant to be impressive? A quick Google tells me that's what Wii Music, Driveclub and Knack sold... who gives a fvck XD

@locopatho: Mate, you have to be trolling.

Mario Kart is only in part a racing game, and part vehicular combat. And there have been 3 Forza's released (2 Horizons, 1 Motorsport) to name just a few that are way better than MK.

As for GTA5, it's an average game at best, people buy it on the name alone, like CoD. There are better open world games that let you play in that would better than what GTA does like Just Cause for example.

Forza is amazing! I'd put it up there with Mario Kart at the peak of the racing genre. But the appeal of cartoon local multiplayer is very high, so I can see why it beats Forza.

GTAV is a masterpiece, sales, reviews and cultural impact all agree but you are of course free to your own opinion. IMO, Just Cause has never risen about 3 star, 7/10 silly fun.

Quite frankly, if you prefer sitting alone at home rather than in a room with friends and family, you're a fucking freak who shouldn't be trying to dictate to anyone what is "sought after".

The only reason devs prioritise online is so that they can charge for it: memberships, battle passes, extra DLC, etc. Nothing to do with lack of demand for split screen, which remains the crown jewel of multiplayer gaming ;)

Do you really believe that devs are prioritizing online because they can charge for it? Which dev is charging for online play?

With that said it would be a bit naive to believe that split-screen play is sought after by the majority of gamers.

Yes. All of them: first party games via pay to play online, and all games via passes, DLC, expansions, skins, points, etc etc etc. Split screen isn't monetisable in that way, so it's intentionally dropped, to our detriment.

Why is it naïve? The vast majority of gamers I've met in my decades of gaming have all loved split screen gaming. Humans are social creatures and enjoy hanging together. It's like asking why pubs and clubs are preferred to drinking at home alone...

You don't have to agree or like that. But Sonic is forever.

I absolutely agree he has impressively gathered enough autists to be a sustainable franchise forever. Kudos! He's still been shit for decades though ;)

I can't remember a non-autist being hyped for Sonic this millennium.
