A simple method I've discovered to let my associates connect to my Minecraft server, which is operating on my own machine is to use a free tool referred to as ngrok to expose my server to the web.
1) Download ngrok from http://www.ngrok.com. You may need to signup for a free account as well, and observe their setup instructions.
2) Start your Minecraft server
3) To share your local Minecraft server, run the next in a terminal:
4) This can display some info, with a line like the next:
Write down the number that is where the XXXXX is above.
5) Your server is now out there on the internet! But how do your pals connect with it?
6) Tell your folks to start out Minecraft, then
- click "Multiplayer"
- click on "Direct Connect"
Fill in the following, changing XXXXX the number you wrote down in step 4)
ngrok.com:XXXXX
7) They need to now be connected to your Minecraft server!
TROUBLESHOOTING: Be aware - if it does not work, then as a substitute of "Direct Join", add it as a server by selecting "Add Server", then supply ngrok.com:XXXXX. Then simply connect to the server that way as a substitute!
