After downloading update 3.21 my fat PS3 would display the "An HDMI device has been detected...." message but would not then output via HDMI. I tried using a different HDMI cable and a different TV, but it would only work using an AV cable. I rang Sony and they gave me the following instructions which to my utter amazement actually worked.

1. Put PS3 on standby.

2. Press and hold power button until you hear 3 single beeps and then let go (I only heard 2 single beeps and then it shut down again)

3. Press and hold power button again until you hear 2 single beeps and then a double beep.

4. It will then prompt you to plug in the controller with a USB cable.

5. When the list of options comes up, select option 2, to restore default settings.

You will then have to go and reset all your settings, date/ time/ disc auto-start etc but it will work.

I can't be certain that it was the update that fubared my PS3 but it seems likely. Hope this helps if anyone has the same problem.

First issue is that blu-ray's are regioncoded - you can't play european blu-ray on your japanese ps3 - you need blu-ray's from the right region...........

svenskamerikan

That's what I thought but Casino Royale is region free, it says on the back of the box 'All Regions: A,B,C'.

The picture plays, I could technically watch the movie just in green.....

I recieved my copy of Casino Royale this moring (thanks Sony!) but when I play it the picture is green. I have a Japanese PS3 and I live in the UK, is the greeness from running the movie on a PAL TV as opposed to an NTSC or HD screen? I'm using an RGB cable as the PS3 would only play in black and white with an AV cable, everything else works fine in colour, anyone have any ideas?

I want a better system for organising music/ video, it's highly annoying having to scroll through loads of tracks/ artists to find what you want!

Hmmmmmm perhaps I am just exceedingly thick after all....I have just noticed however that you can download whilst playing games, I was under the impression it was only music/ video that could be used whilst downloading, woopeeeeeeeeee!

I'm using a Visa Debit so that's probably it, I wish I'd known that earlier, I would have used my Mastercard!

Translated: As fans of the Final Fantasy series, the games will always last for us, however no brand or product can last forever. I wonder what Square will develop after it stops producing Final Fantasy games, i post this in pretence to future generations of gamers on whether or not they will still be able to play Final Fantasy games or whatever Square decides to develop next. I would also like to hear other peoples opinion on the subject.

Reply: I don't think Square will be able to carry on the FF brand for much longer, lets face it "Final Fantasy XXV" sounds quite ridiculous but i don't think it will ever stop making RPGs, its just too good at it! They may simply rename the FF brand for future generations or start a new game with elements of FF in it. I hope future gamers will still be able to play FF, i think its important to know the history of games, especially epic series like FF, its kind of like playing Chrono Trigger or any of the earlier FF's today.
