I think actually Microsoft could easily argue that the console is only a medium for paying for a service from them. You still do have a console, all they've done is withdraw the service they were providing for it.

There's only one reason for someone to mod consoles and that's piracy. The only people I feel sorry for are those who may have unwittingly bought second hand modded consoles and ended up banned.

Compared to Mario, Sonic, or pretty much any EA title I would say no. But it's definitely going that way. But then again even Valve are foregoing making L4D2 an expansion or DLC and making it a whole new title so maybe it's just all video game developers who do this now.

It annoys me when a good game flops or a game with good potential, as it means you probably won't see more of the same in the future.

Look at System Shock 2. Awesome game, great reviews, commerical failure. Look how long it took for the team to come back with Bioshock.

Or Mirrors Edge. Some great design concepts and game design was a flop. Although luckily it's still getting a sequel.

I don't think that many people cry about WOW. I bought the game and played the trial month which I thought was awesome, however after my second month I was just incredibly bored with it and stopped playing completely.

I think one of the greatest advantages of WOW, that it's easy to play, is also it's greatest weakness, in that it's so simple it gets boring incredibly quickly. I can see why if you get in a decent guild you might play for a bit longer but I just felt that there was nothing to really do in the game. I also felt that compared to most RPGs there were a lot of young, immature players which meant that PUGs were always a chore.

Seriously, playstation 3 isn't overpriced it's just unaffordable for many people (myself included). The extrahardware justifies the cost easily. The 360 is undeniably cheap but as usual I think most people forget the Microsoft tax, in that you have to pay a fairly significant annual fee just to play online, unlike on the Wii or PS3.

In the UK at the moment it costs about £30 per year a for Xbox live gold and about £150 for the basic console. Add up how much that will cost you for the 5 years the console will probably be around for and you're gonna be paying £300 easily. The same price as the hardware superior PS3. As the saying goes pennies soon add up and so do microtransactions.

Far Cry 2. Even reliable magasines gave it great reviews and I just don't see why.

  • Repetitive missions (Lets kill the exact same convoy repeatedly).
  • Complete detachment of any story or plot from the game except for simplistic 'Let's kill the Jackal' storyline.
  • Graphics aren't actually that good, to me seemed like a step back from COD4, Crysis, Fallout 3.
  • The two most annoying fps gaming conventions:Rapidly respawning enemies and quickly degrading weapons.

Red Orchestra or Opertation Flashpoint... whichever one of those shooter sims is the newest and best.foxhound_fox

Only played Red Orchestra a couple of times but Flashpoint definitely yeah.

How many of the people saying Crysis and FarCry have even played Stalker?

Stalker is definitely the most realistic gunplay recently, yes firing an AK using iron sights at long distance is innacurate!

Yay for resurrecting old topics, but thought this thread was a good one.

Okami, an absolutely unique innovative game that nobody bought.

And I agree with Deus Ex, one of the few old games I am still happy to play through completely. Despite the graphics looking terrible compared to todays games, the story and gameplay can't be faulted.

I bought a Wii but personally think it's a bit of a fad. Even if it is though it's so cheap, it wasn't really wasted money, however the fact is that as usual Nintendo have made the mistake of concentrating their efforts on in-house development rather than providing for other developers. The technology is a bit old and we all know what happened last time Nintendo did that (N64 vs. PS, Gamecube vs. PS2).

The fact is that anyone who thinks any console other than PS3 is gonna win this gen war is a fool. For the simple reason that the PS3 has sold slowly only because it is so much more expensive, however now that Blu-ray is the preferred format anyone who buys an HD-TV will see a decent Blu-ray player that's also a games console as an awesome deal. The technology behind it is at least as good as the Xbox, however they did drop the ball a bit by losing exclusivity on GTA which would have sealed the deal.

Plus everyone knows XBox players can't talk to girls.

PS. That last bit was not serious.

I think physical interaction is probably oging to be the way forward. And later brain interaction, did anyone else see the news today about producing controllers that react to brainwaves?
