@janethardin: hey sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the tips and link to the guide. I may have some trouble following the game at WCG, I'm into Dota 2 but I'm a relatively new player so all the help is appreciated. With the regional qualifiers starting soon I'm trying to brush up on the meta.
@aryannalao: Well there are several days to the event. I wouldn't be surprised if she showed up each day with different outfits. Unless there is only one designated day for the cosplay event. Still months away I'm sure they're still organizing and planning.
@aryannalao: I think more likely Tassadar or Kerrigan will be their mascot. I know they're gonna have cosplayers at the event so that would be cool to see of course. Besides the obvious Koreans at WCG for Starcraft II I'm sure we'll see some other nationalities as well like Serral. I hope I'm spelling his name right. With Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 at this event we have some intense RTS games lined up. I'm more than excited to see some good ol' intense action of the micromanaging wars.
@aryannalao: I think that's the theme WCG are trying to go for. Perhaps with their love for Starcraft and their motto being Beyond the Game. Like beyond space, beyond the stars? So they do have a very cool sci-fi look to them. Perhaps they will start releasing cool new wallpapers to promote the event even further.
It has been clear Dota has changed the esports scene and maybe more than many of us realize. Especially with Dota 2 it has been one of the biggest games ever. WCG which had been hosting tournaments for about 13 years talks about the importance of Dota 2 which is interesting because I never really thought about it before. They talk about it here.
They outline some history I was not even familiar with it's pretty cool:
Dota 2 represents the genre known as MOBA, AOS, or DotA-like that was born out of the user customization mode of RTS games.
The genre was born around 2002, out of the StarCraft user map ‘Aeon of Strife’ made by Aeon64. This user map contains all of the basic components that still live on in the MOBA genre today, such as three-lined battles, friendly and enemy forces that are automatically generated, and the concept of gaining victory by destroying the opponent’s main base.
A team-play user map made by Eul appeared in Warcraft III. This type of map evolved into the Defense of the Ancients (DOTA), the first mod of the Dota series, which also ushered in the MOBA genre. Dota quickly became popular for the high quality and playability of its user maps, and many games and mods were developed based on Dota’s maps and data.
I've been following WCG for awhile and they just posted the results for week 2 of the national qualifiers for Dota 2, Hearthstone, and Warcraft 3 on their Facebook page. Not sure why it's not up yet on their official page but here ya go. I took the images directly from the Facebook posts, hopefully they don't mind.
Personally the kid inside me is so happy. WCG was so long ago and I kind of grew up with it around and they're still hosting Warcraft 3? One of my favorite games growing up. Some games are just timeless. Reforged is one of the few remasters I'm definitely getting. I'm excited to see this tournament get more exposure to say the least.
I heard that recently on the Warcraft 3 part of World Cyber Games they had to disqualify some players because they didn't use the proper client. I think they were using a different platform or something? Well they put up a reminder on their official website: http://www.wcg.com/news/view/510. I don't know about those who are playing or following the event but hopefully there are no future disqualifications. I feel bad for both the players and the org.
1. Split screen games. I miss playing with my family and friends on one tv and console
2. Full games on release. Everyone definitely misses this same thing I am sure.
3. The lack of guide and walkthroughs everywhere. I usually like doing blind playthroughs and it was great having to talk to other people about uncovering some easter egg or mystery.
4. Game developers doing what they wanted. Diablo Immortal cough cough.
5. I MISS THE DREAMCAST. IT WAS AN AWESOME CONSOLE.
