Fighterguard: your reasoning is off: if you accelerate the wiimote to a given velocity, and then don't DEcelerate it back to 0, the controller knows you're still moving at that velocity. Since you didn't input any force, the device can infer its current speed. So accelerometers can give a complete description of motion--the only issue is how well the accelerometer system is set up.
