Also I still have the keys I picked up throughout the game and I still have the right of kindling. For instance I still had the key to get the rusted iron ring. I am also pretty sure that my game did not go into ng++ and is stuck in ng+.
I was just invading with an ng+ character in the Kiln. I invaded someone's world and as soon as I got into their world the message saying "master of the world has challenged area boss" showed up. Instead of my character getting sent back to my world like normal my dark spirit went through the final cutscene where the fire is not linked. (my character was red in the cutscene) I then saw the final credits and started over in the Northern Undead Asylum.
I had just gotten back to the Kiln and was looking forward to some PVP play. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
I think there is a pretty good chance that the people developing the game know what their main fan base wants. I don't like to see that they are trying to make the game more approachable because that goes against the main fabric of the series, but there isnt any substantial proof that it will be different yet. The develepors probably realize that this game could make or break the souls series, and with a new generation of systems on the way I dont think they will risk detering the main players of the souls games by changing the style dramatically.

I recently started a new game and have just beaten blighttown. I downloaded the dlc and am hoping I can play it in this playthrough, I already killed the hydra before I downloaded it. Does anyone know if I will be able to access the dlc or do I need to start over?
I am yet to pick up any of the Souls games. I feel i wont have the patience for them. Patience to re-try the same thing over and over again with no progression that is.

One of my favorite things about the game is that everything you fight can be a challenge. To get through an area can take a long time but it is very rewarding to learn each enemies fighting style and be able to eventually progress. Then again the game isnt for everyone so if you don't like getting frusturated then it might not be for you.
