Well, I'm not a big fighting games fan, but i love Mortal kombat, liked street fighters a lot, also games like king of fighters have appealed me. But I just dont get soul calibur, people say that the game is amazing, that the graphics are cool that it has so many fighters. Well here is what i think about it:
1) There is nothing that sets this game apart from an ordinary fighting games: no (adoken) or (finish him) or whatever.
2) Game Presentation has to be the worse presentation I've ever seen, I thought konami were doing a great job with badly presenting PES every year.
3) The game is over complicated: lots of unneccessary moves, and guess what you can do them in 100 ways it's forward and A or B or G. or backward and K or A. Come on, it's hard to memorize all these moves with all of them almost look a like.
4) All the fighters fight the same, maybe it's kind of diffirent with someone like voldo or tira (i think) who has 2 stances but still it's mostly slash and dash.
5) Graphics aren't that good, people are saying that the game has good graphics but if you look at games like SVR or TNA which are kind of fighting/sports games with a lot more going on in the background you can surely tell they're a lot better.
6) Story mode is too short, and very ugly.
7) character design is uninspired, mostly look like anime, but a bad taste of anime.
Ok well i tried to look past all these things that annoy the hell out of me, and tried to give it another go this morning, and still hated it. Can someone please point me out how to play or like this game because i feel like i wasted my money on it.
gedo
sounds like your everyday scrub. I mean you're not big into fighters, so why pick it up? if you never touched soul calibur before, what made you want to pick up this game? let me guess... star wars? anyway, onto your points.
1: weapons fighting, 3d fighting, critical finishers, guard impact, just impacts, just frames, ring outs, air control, feints. yeah many fighting games have some of those but not all of them together.
2: game presentation is a matter of opinion, so if you feel that way, you feel that way. I'm more indifferent towards it. menu screens and the like look fine to me. just wish they kept the taunt during the "vs" screen.
3: what's a necessary move and what's an unnecessary move? as long as you know the basic structure, moves are relatively easy to do, and easier to remember. "A"= Horizontal, "B" = Vertical, "K" = Kick, and "G" = guard. and each move has a different property. some will leave you at a disadvantage, some will leave you at an advantage, some will just leave you safe.
4: all the fighters do not fight the same. that's all I'm really going to say there. learn spacing, learn timing, and actually sit down and learn your character. It's not as time consuming as say Virtua Fighter, and it's not easy as learning a hard hitting juggle in tekken, but learning one character and becoming efficient is more than just :oh, look at me, i'm hitting buttons and he's doing something!!!! WOW!!!"
5: like the game presentation, that's your opinion. and again. i disagree.
6: I agree.
7: I agree. Namco actually used to try to make these characters look good. now everyone looks sleep deprived, the outfits really look like they're struggling to think up ways to make them look appealing. and just one outfit and one cas outfit is kind of retarded. still, with more customizeable parts coming via DLC, I look forward to seeing some of their old outfits back.
overall, in terms of aesthetics you can have your opinion on and it's okay to speak your mind on. but when it comes to game mechanics, you really should know the game first before you condemn it. in other words, you should practice more, or get rid of it. what made you jump on board for this game is what gets me interested. if you really want to know how to play this game, search around, there are pleanty of websites on the interwebs that go through this and help you figure it out. same with any other fighting game.
one website in particular caliburforum.com, there you should get a general idea of what to do.
toodles.
