Wow, that's weird. I do have "GHII," but the guitar controller hasn't been plugged in since this problem started happening.

I'll try going straight to the modem on my end, and then I'll have my friend try it. If one or the other clears it up, I guess that'll point to one of our routers.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

About a week ago, I suddenly couldn't join games hosted by a friend on Xbox Live. We also noticed we couldn't chat with each other. Before this, we'd been chatting and playing games together for many months with no problems. Neither of us changed anything on our setups before this problem began.

After snooping around the Internet, I found that this is a common problem, typically related to gamers whose NAT is "moderate" or "strict." So I checked my NAT and found that it was set to "open," which is ideal. I also had my friend check his NAT, and it was also set to "open."

There are dozens of pages on the Web explaining how to fix this exact problem by opening your NAT, but there don't appear to be any that explain what to do if your NAT is already open and you're still experiencing this problem.

On another site, a guy suggested that I go ahead and put my Xbox 360 in the DMZ to see if that helps. When I did, it actually downgraded my NAT to "moderate," and I still couldn't connect with my friend. Not exactly the desired result.

Per another suggestion, I've also tried disabling UPnP on my Linksys WRT54G, but that didn't seem to help, either.

Does anyone else have any ideas? I haven't tried port forwarding, but it seems to me that port forwarding wouldn't help if the DMZ didn't work. Is that faulty logic?
