I just did some quick looking around for SLI requirements for the 8800GTS 640MB and it seems hard to come by SLI power requirements. Different manufactures may vary a little bit on their recommended PSU rating but for a single card EVGA says 400W but they don't list for SLi. Nut, for the Super Clocked edition of the 8800GT, which has higher core and memory clocks then the 8800GTS, they only recommend a 450w is needed for SLI and usually you can get away with a slightly less powerful PSU then recommended if the rest of your system is not pulling a big load. I would think your Earth Watts 500w would be ok as long as you 12v+ rail can supply enough Amps. EVGAs website recommends a 26A rating on the 12V+ rail but again, recommended numbers are sometimes higher then you can get away with. Here is a link to a website where they did actaully tests on how much Dual 8800GTS actaully draw on the system: http://forums.slizone.com/lofiversion/index.php?t405.html

Hope it helps.

Well, newer ATI cards with the newest Drivers installed have a built in overclocking tool. My x1950pro 512MB that I got a few weeks ago has an overlocking included in the Catylyst Control Center. All you have to do is click the unlock button and accept the disclaimer that they don't cover malfunctions that result from overclocking.

Would a computer use 2 gb of ram? My dad says a computer can only use 1 gb, but i dont really believe him....Can anybody clarify this for me?

Thanks.

Kniffy

Well, older computers had MOBO with really low RAM limits. Most modern MOBO are just limited by whetherthey have32-bit or 64-bit processors and OS. For example, the max for my MOBO is 4GB but XP being a 32-bit OS it is limited to addressing just over 3GB for Windows Processes but the rest of the RAM, up to 4GB is assigned by the BIOS to other things like my graphics card, so it's not wasted. I do have a 64-bit processor so if I upgrade to a 64-bit Vista (NOT all Vistas are 64-bit) my system could assign all 4GB of RAM to Windows Processes. You can find MOBO on places like newegg.com that can use 8GB, 16GB and even 32GB of RAM so long has you are using a 64-bit Processor and OS. Getting back to limits of older PCs....my mom's computer is an older Dell and the max RAM her MOBO can handle is 2GB of PC3200 DDR RAM @ 400MHz using 1GB sticks in 2 slots. So a PC that's really old might only be able to have 1GB of RAM installed but if the system is that old I wouldn't want to be using to begin with and would spend the money on a better system.

Looks llike Sony still wants to push the PS2...on G4 today they announced that MCVhas word thatSony will be releasing a $99 PS2 in 2008. Wonder if it's going to be an even smaller version like they did with the later PS1 console...next up in 2010...PS2 the size of a Discman....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127305

It has GDDR4 a 850MHz core clock and a blistering 2300 memory! and not to mention 120 stream processors! Will it run Crysis on medium and Gears of War on high? I can't find any benchmarks of Crysis with a 2600.

Indestructible2

8800GT like I am sure a lot of other people will recommend. 256MB of on board memory is not much even it is GDDR4. Even with a card like that games like Bioshock and Crysis will run but noton High/Max except at a low resolution. Crysis recommends 8800GTS with 640MB on board and Bioshock recommends 8800GTS 640MB or HD2900XT 512MB. And you need to remember if you want max out settings then you need to exceed the recommended specs and not just equal them. The 8800GT beats the 8800GTS and almost matches some of the GTX models out there.

You're joking right? Bioshock RECOMMENDS a 512MB 7900GT/X1900XT,yet it runs well on even 8600's and HD 2600's at lower resolutions.

Sorry, I messed up...I ment 8600GTS not 8800GTS recommended for BioShock. The 7900GT is the DirectX 9 Recommended Card and the 8600GTS is the DirectX 10 recommended card. And if you actaully read my post I say those other cards will play but if you want to play it at good resolution and settings you need the better cards. You can NOT max out BioShock with a DirectX 9 card because it needs Sharder Model 4.0 to max out. Also, it does recommend a card with 512MB of on board memory or better for either DirectX 9 or 10 and to achieve that with the 8600GTS you have to get the 640MB since Nvidia uses 320MB and 640MB and not 256MB and 512MB like ATI.

Recommended System Requirements:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo processor
System RAM: 2GB
Video card:
DX9: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM (NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT or better)
DX10: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 or better
Sound Card: Sound Blaster® X-FiTM series (Optimized for use with Creative Labs EAX ADVANCED HD 4.0 or EAX ADVANCED HD 5.0 compatible sound cards) Important Note: Game requires Internet connection for activation

There were no specs I could find on the BioShock home page.

you should have went with the dimensions 9200, im not really sure about the size of that but dual slot coolers fit and the 8800gt is single slot but its not a small card so make sure it will fit in your card, and check your PSU can handle it. yoyo462001

I lucked out and my DIM 520 used a Standard ATX PSU and as you can see from my Sig I now have an Antec NeoHE 550w which will more then handle the 8800GT. I went with the DIM 520 for the price but I do regret it. The case is plenty big but I just need to remove the fan shroud. I have found the instructions to remove part of it but not the part that sits on the back panel near the MOBO. My x1950pro 512MB fits under the shroud and if I can get the whole shroud off I'll have several inches more in lateral clearence and about a 1/2" or more in vertical clearance. There is a big block heatsink over the CPU but it is further back then the edge of the current fan shroud and a bit higher up in the case. With extra fans installed I shouldn't need that fan shroud any more. Dell puts it in there because the DIM 500 series only has one fan, installed in front that sucks air in and blows it across the middle of the case towards the back. With the help of some zip ties I installed 1 80mm fan in the back and will be adding a second one probably. Why have just open grate when I can stick a fan there to help suck the air out.

Iplugged my phone with no battery and the PC did not recognize anything was plugged in. My PC will recognize the phone when plugged in but turned off because it has an extramemory card installed but it will not recognize anything with no battery. Not all Razors take Micro SD cards but my V3T from T-Mobile does, the memory card is the reason I got that particular phone actually

All active USB ports on a PC (non hub based that is) have a 500mA 5V output. This number will change as more devices are chained to the bus. Your PC should detect the phone wether the phone has power or not. Infact, you shoult be able to detect it without a battery in the phone. I suspect you have a faulty or incorrect cable or USB port. First thing to try is a different port. Second is to consider the cable. Many devices (and cell phones are chief among them) have USB charge plugs that carry no data. They only deliver power to a device and thats it. On top of all that, many USB data cables for phones are proprietary in their makeup. It may fit and look correct, but the wiring is not correct. You can damage your PC and the device with the wrong cable. You should also check out www.howardforums.com for more detailed info on your phone and PC. kodai

The Razor only has one plug and it uses that plug for file transfers to PC, charing and Wired Headsets. My phone came with a wall charger, USB cable and wired hands free headset, they all have the same plug and plug into one place. I transfer ringtones and pictures all the time through the USB cable and it charges the phone at the same time. Most likely issue is the battery is completly dead and can't take a charge. The USB cable that comes with the phone works with other devices with the same plug too. My digital camera takes the same Mini Type B USB plug and I can use it's cable with the phone and the phones cable with the camera.

[QUOTE="jmaster299"]Well, the x1300 comes in both PCi-e and AGP, so as long as you MOBO has a PCI-e slot, and enough room in the case you'll be all good. yoyo462001

Actually, there were three interfaces for X1300 cards (not sure about "Pro" or "Vanilla" in that regard). There are, or were, X1300 cards for PC owners whose cheap PCs were produced without video busses, so they had to use plain PCI cards to do better than their onboard chips would handle things, but no matter the interface, all X1300s are / were snails.

Did not know that but it's good to know. Mine was PCI-e 16x and yeah, it was bad. I can't believe it was Dell's "upgrade" option when I bought my machine. My options were x1250 intergrated or x1300pro 256MB PCI-e 16x....how little I knew back then. This was just last year too. Once I get the darn air shroud out of the case I'll have room for a nice card like the 8800GT. My x1950pro 512MB isn't bad. I can max out on things like Orange Box and play COD4 on High @ 1280x1024 but if I want to play games like Crysis the way I want , I need a better card and need to bite bullet on Vista. Just waiting for the first real Vista tweak to be released before I do.

i was going to get that and at the time it was dell's low end card so dont blame them because the 7900GS was their mid-ranged card anyways it plays games like css really well.

The x1300 pro was the best option available from for the computer I bought at the time. The 7900GS was not an option for the DIM 500 series (510/520).

So I found a motorola razr the other day, and the battery is completely dead. I'm relatively confident that the phone works, but I have no real intention of going out to get a charger.

Anyway the charger port on the phone is USB mini b type, and I have the approriate cable to connect my phone to my laptop. I know there are drivers out their that will allow me charge a razr through usb, but since the phone is dead, my laptop doesn't even detect the device. So I'm not sure how I can use the driver to help me if the device is not even detected.

Which leaves me thinking there might be some way to manually turn on usb ports? Is there a program that would allow me to output 5volts out of whatever usb port I choose?

Or are usb ports always powered, and the phone is just completely broken?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

kimbokasteniv

My Razor came with the USB Data cable and any time I plug it in to transfer files it charges my battery. It takes longer but it will charge it. I do it all the time. I did not need any drivers or anything. I just plugged my phone in and it connected to the PC and charged the battery.I don't know if this is true for laptopUSB ports but it works with my PC. Razors use the same charger as other Motorola phones so if a friend has one try theirs to test the battery.I had an old phone where the battery just got to the point were you could not charge it at all or turn the phone on even with it plugged in. Razors are REALLY common so try getting a new battery.
