As disappointing as the campaign was, it was still fun for a playthrough. It’s interesting to weigh how this game probably would have been rated were the campaign simply left out with how it is being rated currently. I can’t help but think scores would be higher; the campaign drew attention to the rushed and slapped together nature of the package, but all things considered, the zombies and multiplayer are actually quite good; for me, better than they have been in some time. Overall; CoD is still CoD, but as far as CoD goes, this is a better offering than the naysayers would have you believe, and I’m utterly impressed with Sledgehammer at what quality is here. 16 months to produce some of the most fun multiplayer mechanics in CoD in awhile is an accomplishment, even with the recycled maps.

As far as lists go, this one is pretty good. Definitely some outliers here (Deathloop, FFVII, and Uncharted 4 are simply put, not 10s), but overall, I agree with the list for the most part. I would probably add Battlefield 3 (best multiplayer FPS of all time) and RDR2, but other than that, well done GameSpot. 👍

Game is fantastic; far superior to The Outer Worlds which somehow garnered ubiquitous 9s when it launched in 2019. I realize standards change over time, but this is a far better game than I think the reviews make it out to be. Mods will make it better, of course, but I can’t help but feel like it’s lower scores are such because of the perception of what it could have been, rather than the merits of what it actually is, which is pretty superb.

If there were any series that deserved the Hogwarts Legacy treatment, this is it. An MMO? Color me disappointed.

I completed this game as a kid, and it wasn’t too hard for me as a 10 year old back then. I have a hard time believing it’s too difficult now.

A remaster would be great, but if it’s just the first game that would be so disappointing. I’m sure Crysis 1 is great, but 2 is the only one I’ve played, and it holds a special place in my heart. I loved it.

Lol I just bought Anthem and was taken aback at how shoddy the connections are over a year out. Happy to know this is not the fault of the game, was about to regret my $10 purchase.

Epic sale. Picked up the exclusives I was missing. Days Gone, Detroit, Death Stranding and Spider-Man — Game of the Year Edition for only $90 is hard to beat.

Gears 5 is a superb game, but if Gears 3 managed an incredible non-monetization system at a point when Xbox actually had some exclusives, Gears 5 should be able to do the same. Sony’s studios aren’t innocent, Naughty Dog’s monetization in The Last of Us Factions and UC4 multiplayer bordered on pay2win with perks and weapons locked behind paywalls, and this was objectively far more egregious than what The Coalition is doing with cosmetics, but Sony’s studios have the hard earned legroom to mess up, where Microsoft’s studios don’t. Every opportunity to engender good will by each and every one of MS’ new acquisitions should be taken. This is how to win the console war.

This is a score I would have understood for Gears 4, which felt very much like an expansion pack (though one I loved), but here there is more than enough new that anything below an 8 seems unnecessarily critical. Numbers, however, are arbitrary and it’s the words of this review that I can find myself agreeing with for the most part, even if I’d score this an 8.5.
