BR isn't just a large-scale deathmatch, but BR is last-man-standing gameplay in a shrinking playfield. There was no battle royale mod like that for DayZ until the PlayerUnknown mod.

BR is death match with 1 life.

Everyone was playing Dayz as a br game even though that is just basically trolling as dayz is a survival game but people were not interested in working together, apart from as murder squads.

Social experiment: fail.

@xantufrog: perhaps it could avoid framedrop

That would be the one area clone consoles could have a clear advantage over original hardware. You can increase the smd 68000 by 200% in retroarch which makes playing 3d games twice as fun and eliminates slowdown in some cases.

That should be standard in clone consoles. An actual tangible improvement.

@lizabrown007: You get a year's telephone support with any new mac. Otherwise a black screen is not particularly easy to troubleshoot.

Journey springs to mind.

Black and White is pretty idle.

@Jag85: yeah but dma access is faster so more samples could be loaded in without interrupting the cpu thus a higher quality of sampled instruments could theoretically be loaded in program runtime without affecting performance.

@Jag85: yeah the Mega-CD was overpowered. Well done for finding a game which used the pcm chip. Shame the only game I ever saw advertised for the Mega CD was that Batman driving stage and a stupid cgi skull spouting 90's-isms and a barrage of pointless MTV style imagery and I was very much put off by the whole thing. But, the games, Sega? Aren't we forgetting something?

The SMD PCM channel lacked timing interval-something-doohickies which meant creating a true pcm instrument driver for the ym2612 was complicated but Traveller's Tales made one for Toy Story.

The problem is drivers were not shared and closely guarded as they were considered and were a valuable piece of software and an edge on your competition.

[Edit] I'm not seeing the example of the Mega cd Ricoh pcm chip you mentioned. I honestly don't think it was ever used... OK found them right at the bottom. :)

The 64KB of sound memory is still very small but the dma capabilities of the MegaCD pcm chip would no doubt have created more impressive results than the bottlenecked SNES dma.

Mega Drive games usually used the 6th channel in pcm mode for sound effects and speech, leaving the 5 other channels (and 4 psg channels) for instruments and maybe crappy sound effects.

Sure, we all know the SNES had more colour I mean they made sure of that right on the console's logo. But in terms of colours displayed on screen, it's less impressive given memory limitations, dealing with 15bit colour and only an 8bit address bus.

The thing is when people recall SNES music it is with a serious amount of nostalgia as the fidelity of the sound is so low as to sound almost comical when compared to music of the SMD. The idea the SMD sounds tinny makes no sense as then you have to lay that same claim on every other computer up until FM synth was finally phased out which would be the the PS1/Saturn era I think being the last consoles to have a midi interface before it was all simply streamed cd audio soundtracks and sampled effects.

[edit edit] Toy Story's pcm player on the SMD is not the best quality (understatement of the century), like everything Travellers Tales puts out, to this day... Lego games.

[Afterthought] I have just discovered the most amazing website in the world modarchive.org. I have set it to play random mod files from a user created database of many, many mod files and all the sound drivers needed are contained within two tiny little js files. Technology. How it moves along...

I had to download quicktime 7 to listen to a midi file the other day as midi files are no longer supported by mac os, iTunes or quicktime 8+. I cannot find a software wavetable driver like MS direct-x used to provide. The qt7 midi is not very good. :(

@lizabrown007:it's not surprising you can't play Android games on a mac not within some kind of wrapper. Can you be that naive about computers? Mac's come with Bootcamp which will help you set up an android os if you want to play android games.

@ivaturk: Panzer Elite looks really good but GoG don't even have Mechwarrior 2 and their conversions aren't always that great.

You will be looking at emulating this game for sure and doing much fiddling with settings.

Well if people are putting Mel Gibson, Sean Connery and Arnold Schwarzenegger I can choose Russell Crow, Oliver Reed and Jean Claud Van Damme but Dustin Hoffman is the best. Also Brad Pitt.
