^Thanks. I did not even get the console and I am fearing for the worst. Geez, I wonder what caused the Wii to stop reading games. I will post when I learn the answer.

Ok, so I had to send my niece's Wii to Nintendo to be repaired. The culprit was the dreaded "disc could not be read". Nintendo must have fixed it because UPS tried to deliver it to me today. Unfortunately, I was not home.

Will we have the same issue as the XBOX 360 in which people have had to return it 3 and 4 times?

No, I have not been to college. I am a loser.

I know I was a smartass at the end, but I hope I made my point.

Earlier in the thread a poster said something like "it's simple economics, if you charge $8 for something and it costs you $10 to make, thats a bad thing", something like that. My point is that no, thats not an example of simple economics, and it's hardly relevant in this situation.

Of course Sony wants to make the console as cheaply as they possibly can, but they make the bulk of their money off of deals allowing game developers to make games for their console.

The point is, they will gladly eat $100 in production costs per console if they can make $200 per console in developer fees.

I had no idea Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony earn money in developer fees.

Sony says that the PS3 has increased in sales, but experts predict that it is in trouble. Some analysts (I don't remember where I read it) even think that Sony may stop manufacturing the PS3 and just make software. If game sales are poor developers will stop making games for it. The lack of support for the PSP proves it.

Ugh. I don't want support for PS3 to die. I spent 2000 dollars on a 60G PS3 and a 40" HDTV. I don't like the Wii and have no intention of buying an XBOX 360.

Someone please prove the PS3 doubters wrong.

ZIMdoom

There are no analysts who say the PS3 will stop production. The PS3 is the reason Sony won the BR vs HD-DVD wars. That has way more long term repercussions for Sony than any console. Meanwhile, the PS3 doesn't even have to compete on its own since the PS2 still brings in a ton of cash. By the time the PS2 dies, the PS3 will be more reasonably priced.

The problem is that analysts look at how things have been in the past and then look at company financials and make guesses. 9 times out of 10 they are wrong. And I have been gaming since consoles were first made and this is the first gen where EVERYTHING has changed. Consoles have launched higher than ever before, way more companies are going multiplat instead of exclusive, the quick adoption of HDTVs and HD gaming, BluRay, Netflix, Wii's attraction to non-gamers, etc, etc, etc. This gen is like nothing I've ever seen, not even close, and analysts can't see that all bets are off.

Meanwhile, I would also add that no matter how good or "bad" the consoles do this gen, I doubt even the Wii will be as big as the PS2 was. It certainly won't have its game library. NOTHING will be able to replicate the PS2, I believe, and this gen will only be a step down.

Sony is now the single biggest console maker in history. The PS1 and PS2 combined have sold over 200 million consoles in 10 years time. I don't think even the NES, SNES, N64 and GC combined sold that much and that takes place over roughly 20 years. Even if the PS3 bombs, it is completely ridiculous for anyone to think Sony will stop making consoles. When you have that massive of track record, you don't let one console stop you dead in your tracks.

You are right about Nintendo. It did not let the poor sales of the Gamecube stop it from releasing the Wii which is unstoppable.

Lol you sweet naive little child. it's all propaganda. America's analysts are forced to talk negatively about the foreign companies in americas top industries. By doing this they are helping the poor economy and encouraging americans to buy american products. Thats all it is.__Q__

I never thought of it this way.

Not worried a bit. And I suggest you dont either. Buy games, play them, have fun. Let sony worry about it. raven_squad

I just bought 5 games in the past two weeks. Little Big Planet was one of them.

My favorite game is Kingdom of Paradise. I have never enjoyed such unique gameplay in my life.
