Hello dead union, anyone here? Haha, just updated my profile for the heck of it.

First time I've logged in for months (wasn't planning on logging in ever again!) and I find this haha.

I'm gonna use this to say my goodbyes. I'm not sure if anyone from the union ever looks at this board anymore, nor have I been in contact with them in any other way. But thinking back, I enjoyed all the trivial conversations everyone had in this union. :)

Now, I'll leave this french phrase I know, which I feel fits this situation:

Á tout le monde, à tous mes amis, je vous aime, je dois partir.

Metallica for life, **** yeah!!!!!!!!

Oh. It's just that I have no idea what we are gonna do....Balmane

Same. As far as I can gather, the new gamespot site will keep some unions as forums.

This isn't my case, though here's something.

FF is a universe that I can't resist, I can't see FF unions die and do nothing, good luck all.

Let's collaporate, let's defend our unions, #Save Our Union #Spreading optimism :)

SQUALL20XX

I posted a link to our union in the comment section of that blog. (Although, it doesn't seem to be appearing atm :?). Thanks for the link Squall!

Hey guys. I'm back, a little late it would seem. Well I didn't expect this to happen so soon. This sucks. I'm using my phone to post at the moment but I'll post a longer response later, maybe tomorrow. I was looking forward to being active again because I'm about to go back to college (I made it into 4th year! Honours degree here I come! :) ). I'll miss this union...

I think Dark Souls and Demon's Souls owe their fame to their difficulty, indeed, but I also think the games are popular because of their overall uniqueness. When I was talking about 'dark' themes I didn't actually mean character personalities per se. I was mainly talking about the design of enemies and architecture.

I've owned every English RPG Maker (as far as I know) And got a little enjoyment out of each, though I never made anything all that exciting. The longest project I ever did was supposed to be a birthday present for one of my exes... I got almost completely done before I had to wipe my hard drive because of a virus x.x I was a little pissed to say the least.Xx_Kares_xX

Just because a harddrive is wiped doesn't mean all is lost. Just the other day my external sd card on my phone was completely wiped but I was able to get back at least 90% of the stuff. :) The only thing that would truly wipe a harddrive is if it was electrocuted. Even if you smashed it up with a hammer some people would be able to get some of the data back off it.

I think the souls games are too stale. It feels too dark and slow. The story is not at all a masterpiece and the is close to none charactherbuilding. My favorite thing about games is when something goes down to the psychological level and creates the dark crazyness that way. I didnt like the style of Alice : Madness, but just the story told underneath makes the game so dark and delightful and creats a really good game.

lordmew

I like the atmosphere and pacing of the game. The combat feels weighty and realistic. The enemies strike genuine fear into you. The story is very hard to understand in the games because it's not told in an old fashioned sense; much of the story the player will have to piece together from multiple playthroughs. I myself have very little understanding of the actual 'stories' of the games, but it's lore is palpable; the world and it's characters all feel like they actually exist and have an interesting history. The character building is similar to the story i.e it's not black and white, I won't spoil anything but some of the npcs behave very unpredictably and you'll feel genuine emotion for some of them (I was a big fan of the onion knight in dark souls). As for the character you control, yes very little character building, but I actually preferred that my character was actually MY CHARACTER and not some pre-scripted whiny teenager. It suits the game perfectly.

On the topic of both game's difficulty: it's nowhere near as hard as people make it out to be. All you really need to do is have quick thinking and reflexes and experiment with different tactics. Trial and error. In dark souls there was a particular boss (it's actually 2 bosses in 1 boss fight) that kicked my @ss over and over again but I still beat them :P I think it took like 9 or 10 attempts altogether, but after the 5th or 6th fight I had the general tactic down. It was only a matter of time from that point.

Haven't played Demon or Dark Souls yet despite having both on my shelf... I used to be a big fan of From Software, mostly for the Armored Core Series (When it was still a simulation and not an action game x.x) and the RPG Makers (perhaps I'm getting From Software and Agetec confused, but they often worked together)Xx_Kares_xX

I have an RPG Maker on my laptop :P It takes too damn long to do anything though. I just kept making bosses with really complicated special moves. I realise now after doing some programming at college that there were easier ways to program those moves. :P It's still a very cool game for those dedicated enough to stick with it.

Final Fantasy has already had it's time in the spotlight, the best FF games are behind us. My favourite developer(s) at the moment is From Software. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls games are amazing and I applaud From Software for not dumbing down the games or making them easy. Those games are unique and exquisitely gothic. It's funny because I've actually only played through those games once :P I never had time to play them again (still don't). But then again, I don't really replay any games these days. Two of my favourite games of all time. I really hope the PS4 brings back really good JRPGs as the PS3 didn't have enough. I'd just like a new game with a turn based combat system, a cool upgrade/levelling system and realistic graphics.

Looks like we're gonna have to wait a long time to see a more familiar FF game. At this stage I'm almost hoping for Square-Enix to go completely bankrupt (even though that's very unlikely given how many games they publish) so that they'll have to sell their major assets such as Final Fantasy. At the same time, I don't think many other developers could turn the game around. Another developer might actually make the series worse. Ideally, guys like Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu would be part of the development of a new game, though I don't see that happening anytime soon. If Mistwalker eventually got the rights to FF, who knows, maybe we'd actually see a good FF game again. But would Sakaguchi and Uematsu really want to work on FF anymore? As it stands, probably not. But I wouldn't think that Sakaguchi would ever let his own mega-popular creation just die. If FF was in serious trouble (I'm talking 'Final' Final Fantasy), he'd be there to save it.
