there was talk of them doing a new xbox powered by intel arc battlemage architecture because intel really really wants battlemage to be a success. it would be on par with the rtx 3070ti in terms of flagship product, but you wouldnt get the flagship probably a lower sku for bulk production. and the only reason it is happening at all (if its happening) is because intel basically cut them a deal where they sell them the gpu at bottom bucket price, basically at cost. because if they can push out a console then games will need to be developed with intel arc in mind and because doing so gives them a modicum of street cred. it would also finally bring simple ray tracing to games, RTX minecraft could exist on such a console as an example or rtx quake (in theory). but this is still up in the air, AMD is providing the cpu if its happening based on the 8000G series apu's and thats in fact why amd made them as a way of showing investors and bulk buy customers for stuff like rog ally, steam deck, etc, xbox, that they can move the needle in big ways. the 8000G is a crap cpu in todays world, but as an APU it blows the doors off the previous mobile chips and desktop chips

@PfizersaurusRex: as stated im shopping local not online, so my alternatives are all 7800XT's with the same problem (gigabyte 302mm), and MSI (320mm) and qck 319 (320mm), and the only 4070 does fit my case within my $700 canadian budget.

or i take a lower end gpu like the 7700XT (gigabyte, xfx, msi) or a 4060ti (pny, asus, zotac)

i could also take a 6750 (sapphire) but i think its a tad foolish going from an 8gb refresh 6600 to the next tier up's refresh card

what they need to do is make good enough, and i do mean that, focus on removing 8gb vram from the stack 10gb+ at least with good memory bus width, at a good price, especially that 400 dollar price tag like the 6700xt is now, if you put like the 7700XT with 16gb at 400 dollars whooo nvidias bacon would be greased something fierce.

trying to fight nvidia for the 99%th percentile is no longer relevant, thats a pointless horse to chase, nvidia will simply do it and theres no catching them but those are also the only 4000 series that really have sold well, 4060's pop up because of prebuilts mainly or a lack of available 3060's still on the shelf where someone is geographically situated. but between there is a gulf that the consumer has avoided because none of it is appealing.

the 8800gt back in the day sold like crazy, so much so they basically released the same card twice (9800gt) and THAT sold like crazy too, amd needs that. it needs a product that sits in the center of the stack that everyone is willing to pony up too, "good enough" for most things, with the vram for 2k gaming and the preformance needed to play games without a fuss at like medium and high at 60fps. if you can hit that mark dead on at a reasonable price. you will sell and sell, and sell, and AIC's will roll in doubloons, we are in a time of pc gaming boom, AMD needs to capitalize now before the bust.

if you do that there is no.. 5090 nvidia can make that will counter that, yes, crypto bros are rich and ai bros too, but what they are is elite, they are few in number the bulk of the consumer has always been the mid and low end, and if you can make that segment profitable and successful, there really is no catching you

so after the unfortunate hell that was my pc nearly coughing and dying i have made some changes to my pc, gut her and rebuilt her better, stronger, faster, more capable. but still i crave more

i have a 1440p monitor and so 2k performance is where i wanna be and the 6650xt i bought cause it was literally the cheapest thing not made of false promises and plywood down at the store was fine but.. not really what i wanna be doing with my life. so she will be coming out.

if you havent seen the rest basically pc died as i was rolling out an 8 month plan to upgrade my pc, and 6 months later here i am thanks to some savvy shopping and some patience.

ryzen 5800X

hyper 212 halo white

corsair t220 white

gigabyte aorus b550M elite v2

msi mech x2 6650xt

24gb ddr4 (16 (2x8) gb corsair dominator white and 8gb (2x4) kingston hyper x)

1tb samsung 970 evo

1tb kingston 1tb ssd (m.2)

500gb kingston ssd (sata)

corsair 850e

3 more corsair rgb fans which were given to me as a gift which ive used to add back exhaust and top draw in

(also as an aside i got a keychron V5 keyboard and some 3rd party caps and did a tape and foam mod and oh, oh yes)

i crave the white gpu it calls to me so, and id like to shop locally, not to take things away from online shopping but we have had a serious explosion in porch theft so leaving it on the stoop is a quick way to get a gpu stolen. so this really eliminates me feeling safe getting is stolen (ive also had it happen twice to me and my lady).

so ive had to shop local, and theres really only 2 games in town memory express and bestbuy and honestly prices arent extortion even if selection is strangled to death. not wanting only marginal gains you need a microscope to find i have settled on 3 cards

pny rtx 4070 (not white but its in the price bracket so i thought id at least list it)

XFX merc 7800XT

asus dual (white) 4060ti 16gb

the problem is a matter of clearance

the 4060ti and 4070 both fit my case out of the box, no questions asked, but i also know about the hellish problems with the 4060ti being basically a joke card from the 4060 on the way to the 4070. the 7800XT fits my aesthetics and is cheaper then the 4070 by a good 30 bucks, but if i want to take her i need to rip out a front mounted case fan it would be the middle fan on the frontside, is this a safe thing to do? should i worry about my heat suddenly spiking?

im not big on brand loyalty or teams or any of that nonsense, im simply trying to get a good uptick in preformance in warhammer 3, rainbow 6 siege, doom eternal, mechwarrior 5, and alan wake 2

@04dcarraher: so update here, I did do that, I went down and got a new Thermaltake El cheapo 750 watt and it was working fine for a time anyway, several days later it simply wouldn't roll over, even swapped gpus again and it wouldn't roll over. This having failed to yield results.

I go down to my local memory express, buy a new corsair 850 modular, a new case, I splurge on a higher end modern Chipset amd motherboard

... still nothing.

I reseat my ram, reseat my gpu, I go so far as to swap parts from a work pc, I talk my little brother into donating his pc for donor parts, nothing...

I have the same black screen as before. The only option I have not yet exhausted is reverse parts testing. Which I will be doing tomorrow, failure to yield any meaningful results will see me sending the pc to memory express for testing, repair, and servicing

So I got a new gpu, rx 6650xt, should be good, I got it because my gtx 1060 was failing to post. Here's where stuff goes from mundane to weird.

My gtx 1060 is fine, I put it in my folding box, and it sung beautifully, I put my new gpu into my system and she refuses to go.

Next I take my ancient as binary HD 6950 from HIS, a card that needs both my power connectors and she rolls over like it isn't even a problem, my graphics card slot, works fine, my power connectors appear to be working fine. For whatever reason, good or ill, the same system swapping a graphics card says mmm sorry no can do?

Can someone explain this to me? The 6950 should be chugging power like a beast compared to the single 8 pin rx 6650 I just bought, so the power supply being at fault is very much... called into question here, and if it's the motherboard, please explain how the HIS is booting just at all really

I don't have onboard graphics on my b350m pro vdh, so if someone can explain to me, what... demon I have conjured to me, it would be greatly appreciated, I will post updates as I experiment with various solutions, I'm not sure any of them will make any sense

bit of an update, my gtx 1060ti went out it her sleep, she past quietly and painlessly as the reaper came for her so i need to go get a replacement, my sideman the HIS 6950 ever the consumate champion has stepped up to fill in for him till i replacement can be found. rest in peace forever to the homie

my question is, i have an ocz 650 ZS, will she be suitable for a 6650xt? they are on sale right now locally and so i can grab one for 300 new, which is more then id like to pay but acceptable. will i need a new power supply as well?
