Doesn't work for me in Firefox either. It does work in Chrome.

I have no idea how Gamespot keeps breaking its video functionality when every other site in the world works fine, but this is not the first time.

I've been visiting Gamespot less over the last couple of years. The loss of so many community features has been a major blow and the redesigns haven't worked well for me. But the reason for my topic is this:

I think you've made a major mistake in the design of the front page, specifically the Popular / Recent tab. Having popular stories completely cover recent stories by default means that, by default, I'm going to see the same stories featured on your front page for days -- even weeks -- at a time. It makes the site look stale.

In fact, I will confess that until recently I didn't even notice that there was a clickable RECENT tab. I've been coming to Gamespot, leaving disappointed that there didn't seem to be much new content.

I would think you'd want, at most, a handful of popular stories highlighted. More importantly, I think you'd ALWAYS want people to see the latest headlines on your front page by default! Popular stories are great... but if they remain for several days then it's just old news.

@Gelugon_baat: Wow thanks, that was incredibly not helpful.

To others: Chrome is set to auto-update the browser and flash plugin by default, so version numbers don't matter there. Firefox and Flash are both the latest -- that's the first thing most people would check. For me, it's just Gamespot and it's only their content and not the ads. Videos aren't hard to come by on the internet, so pinpointing it to one site makes it not likely "my fault"

@Shunten: I have this problem as well, but on both Firefox and Chrome. Any video is a slideshow. I don't have that problem on any other website and it's one of the reasons I stopped paying much attention to Gamespot.

Seriously, how hard is it for a site of this scale to fix avatars...

Pirate700

I was kind of wondering the same thing. Or at the very least an update.

This is about the tenth thread on this subject. Normally they end up getting locked without resolution. I wish someone would make a statement on this issue. I haven't watched a Gamespot video in months - not because I don't want to but because I can't. It's a Gamespot-only issue and does not happen on any other site.

Same here (Chrome). Between this and not being able to watch the videos I'm starting to think Gamespot hates me.

I've just installed Firefox and it works fine. There must be a setting in both IE9 and Chrome that causes problems with viewing videos on Gamespot. All standard plugins, no apparent ad-blocking, no videos. Weird. OP, you should give it a try to see if it works for you.

Thanks for the suggestions, but Flash is updated to the latest version and I have no ad-blocking. I see millions of them on Gamespot just fine. The only plugins I have are standard Microsoft and Adobe. The AVG plugin is disabled. I can view the video on this page: http://www.gamespot.com/events/quakecon2011/story.html?sid=6327370&tag=top_stories%3Bimg%3B2 just fine, but not this http://www.gamespot.com/shows/start-select/?tag=topslot;img;2 The only reason why I keep looking for help from Gamespot is that this is the only site anywhere on the internet on which I cannot view videos. It has to be something in the code that is causing problems with a handful of users.
