Of course. Major console manufacturers keep releasing machines lacking innovation or new features just to keep the cash pouring in and someone will point out to them. Apple lost many of their fans due to the lack of innovation. It's just a matter of keeping the line going now. It's very crucial for video game consoles to have new features to allow developers to make better games and not be hindered by technical incapabilities and shortcomings.

As for video games, most companies are too focused on making "commercially successful" video games. Even indie game makers, they're too focused on trying to appeal to major companies to have them sponsor and release their games on their platforms and that means more money even though exposure doesn't only come with big labels. Ni No Kuni was the only decent game I played last year. I hope to see more games like it in the future otherwise, I'll write to people, campaign and fund-raise the games I want to play! This is purely my opinion. I hope no one gets offended by that. And if you happen to know similar games to Ni No Kuni or Okami or SOTC, please let me know.

Edit: The money based mindset needs to be uprooted. They have a right to try and make money out of it but not exploit people. I wish for anti consumer practices as releasing unfinished games and charging people full price for it to stop. It's cheating and illegal.

@Bigboi500: I agree. Which is why I have a problem with being told to tolerate intolerance. If people want to believe being gay is a sin and will damn them to hell, I have no issue with that. What I have an issue with is when those people write that belief into the law and use it to oppress others. When I call them out on that I am labelled "intolerant", and it's really quite aggravating.

This. It's a ridiculous double-standard that seriously needs to die.

Ok, but they shouldn't be making LBGT a standard on GS, either. Nothing against nobody of the GS crew, but I'd really be glad if there was also a woman to represent the female gamership here.

I'm a cis woman and don't mind to be "represented" by transwoman if that's what you mean.

The problem with video games is the political views of the majority.

You made a good point when you said the reviewer addressed some of the problematic things within the game without other glaring issues including the thing which video games, in general get criticized for and that is violence. I totally agree with that but you can't ask people to be consistent without being consistent yourself. You might not be aware but using words like retard and mentally ill as insults is extremely rude and intolerable. I agree with the graph a user posted few pages ago. Things change and evolve and to me video game journalists addressing offensive/controversial content within games is a step in the right direction. I can't call speech or any offensive content "entertainment". While people have the right to include offensive and controversial content in their creations, people also have the right to point that out to those who don't want to to come across products with such content like myself. Video games are form of entertainment as books, films and music, why should they be exempt to this type of critique? I don't think GTA5 review is the first where Gamespot addresses offensive and controversial themes. I don't think Gamespot is the only place that addresses this type of themes in video games. With all due respect to you, I doubt you'd be comfortable if a video game had discriminatory content or hate speech against your group.

Another point, story, setting and theme are part of video games. When making a video game, you hire two teams, art direction team who are in charge of everything you see, and programmers. An art director or writer in very few games, is someone hired by the company, gets paid by the company and writes for the company. So when an art director or a writer writes or thinks up something offensive for a game, it is an issue with the game. You can't say |Carolyn wrote a review about how sexist GTA5 is without actually talking about the game" She did talk about the game. She pointed out the sexist writing which Rockstar hired people to do, sexist drawings, which again Rockstar hired and paid people to do and they spent hours coming up with designs, modeling and animating. It is a technical aspect of a video game. Just because you tend to overlook this part of video games doesn't make it less important than graphics, sounds and other things.

Something that's not online already and is cool and worth watching.

It was great and people should take notice to everything he says because it has to do with our rights as consumers=. If we don't stand up to businesses selling beta and testers for the price of full games as he said, soon all companies will take advantage of such anti-consumer practice and increase the prices of all games. That's where I'm concerned at least.

I loved Outbreak games. Yoko was my favorite character because of the backpack. The two games were scarier and more entertaining than RE5 and 6.

I actually came back in here for the purpose of sharing my thoughts and impressions on AO only to discover my character and posts once again being attacked .

So be it.

I can be a caustic prick but there are no innocents in here and the manner in which I opt to use rhetoric and prose, however vicious, is almost always without exception a direct response to somebody else's decision to insult or deride first.

But since we've arrived at a point where I'm the bad guy I'm going to remove myself from the equation for a while and see if this forum becomes a better place in my absence. I'm not saying I won't be back for certain but at the very least a protracted sabbatical seems called for.

Thanks to those who provided some kind words in my defense.

Arrrrggggghhhh.

Really Gram, I meant no hard feelings but suppose that couldn't be avoided. Look, what I mean to say is that all in all I just think these things are not conducive to a friendly and easy going community. I would also not be surprised if some users are hesitant to post after seeing you post. It can be intimidating. I know that you never start on someone unless provoked, but really, these people should just be ignored. One or two personal slights should not bring the wrath of God down on their heads. Frankly, they're not even worth it.

Anyway, I suspect we are but hope we're not now at odds.

At this point it hardly matters.

The amount of shit thrown my way for simply refuting an argument or having the audacity to demand a bit of logic is asinine and as Reddest already pointed out, both of those quotes you cited were people clearly looking for a fight.

But I'm the dick for swinging back, right?

I love this place but I am done here because clearly, I no longer belong. Perhaps that is only fitting given the influx of new people coupled with the recent transition to a new format.

Regardless, my best to everybody, no hard feelings, and take care.

I won't be coming back.

Come on, the entire board wants you to stay. I'm looking at armchair gods as they trash Namoura's early works and I bet none of them can draw. Is there anything worse? That's the internet.

at least Snake and Max Payne acknowledged themselves early on. And it didn't stop gamers from liking them.

Solid Snake

: "This isn't a training exercise. Our lives are riding on this. There are no heroes or heroines. If you lose, you're worm food."

Max Payne

: "Collecting evidence had gotten old a few hundred bullets back. I was already so far beyond the point of no return I couldn't remember what it had looked like when I had passed it." XD

But that's no morality. Morality in games is characters acknowledging that it's human beings they're killing with families and loved ones and friends and lives just like them. This is more of an issue with games that have you kill humans than zombies and monsters.

Well there are authors who make the entire games. George Kamitani is one and his works are quite impressive I have to say. If I like their line of work then I'd make sure to check their latest if I don't, I wouldn't. Some designers would be a great addition to any team, e.g. Shinji Mikami, Hideki Kamiya. Some really affect the quality of a series e.g. Final Fantasy and the departure of Sakaguchi.

I mean no disrespect here, but can we all lay the egos to rest please? It's getting really, really tiresome to continually see threads getting hijacked seemingly for no other reason than to stroke ego and in the attempt to maintain standing in other's eyes. Then inevitably comes the adoration of the groupies.

Enough. Perhaps a sticky should be made entitled "Gram vs. Gamespot".

If that's how people honestly feel then perhaps my own days here are numbered.

No need to foist my supposed ego on anyone.

No stay, we like you here. You're classy.
