@antiredcap Yes. In summary most of the rumors were way off. But an informed person could have had some idea what to expect: as far as hardware limits. Motion control was definitely original and hard to predict.

Its simple: they are introducing a special Wiimote that has a touch screen ergonomically placed where your thumb is. Why didn't I think of that? It will make navigation of menus more fluid and introduce some interesting game mechanics. Just think of it: the ability to scroll or change weapons with the flick of your thumb.

I would much rather play a game or watch a movie about the same story that is in a book. Movies are easier than games for telling stories (you don't have to do anything to experience the story except passively observe). However, you get more out of a story if it is told through a game (all the nuances, of the plot, the characters). In a Movie you observe the story. In a Game you ARE the story.

I do like games with linear stories in gaming that exist right now some notable ones: Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, Half Life 2 (series), Portal, Metal Gear Solid (2,3,4)... Interactivity and story are hard to mix but can be combined. Either you >Write a story for every divergent choice >Write one story and have the AI manage all the other choices >Write one guideline story and make people the actors in that story (one player for every person in the story even villains, even less significant characters like peasants)

The simplest way to implement stories with the least effort is in: >Emergent Multiplayer >Realistic and Highly controllable gameplay (any acrobatic maneuver, handwriting, manipulate objects in full 3D with your hands) >Destructible Physics (where you can destroy anything) >AI managed animals & merchants >A "General Narrative" Themed Scenery, Items, clothes Enemies depending on the Theme (Robots or Orks or Soldiers) Human controlled Gods (that prevent the game from being unbalanced or boring) Human controlled Villains (the villains can win, form alliances or lose depending on their actions) You could act out any Movie this way and have divergent stories.

It also crowds out other satisfactions in life, compounding the problem.” I think this is universally true for (insert any) physiological addiction. Some people get way too serious into their hobbies that it interferes with living (family, job, life maintenance in general). Mentally we prioritize how important parts of our life are. In life we are always trying to avoid pain (getting yelled at, losing money, losing time, boredom) and search out rewards in life (wealth, good food, pleasure, good well being, health). We all got into gaming to have fun. And if gaming is at the top of our priorities list, it perpetuates itself as a psychological need (sapping our time and energy). Almost everyone has ambitions. At some point I think people stop having fun and start training to become better than their friends at a particular game. The shift becomes more like job training (mentally) than merely gaming for pleasure. At this point gaming is an obsession. Major League gaming seems like a driving factor to get people obsessed about gaming. In many ways gaming can be a great experience. Get a bunch of friends together in a LAN party or on a console makes a lot of sense. The problem is not the activity, it is within the minds of those who have obsessive tendencies.

@ moh_sakhaii: actually Sony was planning on using this same technology on the PS3 in 2009 (they use an Nvidia Graphics card after all).

I welcome the coming 3D revolution. However, I need a pretty high refresh rate screen to play games on that. I only have about a 60 Hz LCD. That won't cut it unless I don't mind seeing the game refresh half that speed.
