Shit, I mean I fucking loved TLOU and am incredibly stoked for #2. The only reason I'm a little nervous is that the first game worked so well as an isolated story, and I hope that revisiting it doesn't dilute any of its power. I'm disappointed that (in this comments section, at least) the gender of the lead character seems to be an issue to some people :( I know people like the feeling of being this powerful old dude, but I for one appreciate a game's ability to allow the player to feel that power from a woman's perspective. The winter chapter of TLOU was my favorite from both a narrative and gameplay standpoint, and it's likely that Ellie's feminine badassery had something to do with it. I hope we can all give her a chance in TLOU2. I'm fucking excited!
I definitely wouldn't call the first game "painfully flawed," although I agree that the presence of enemies with guns was a little problematic. (I got around this problem by playing the whole game without picking up a gun, which added a nice challenge and forced me to keep up the pace when I met enemies.)
I'm disappointed that they took out the anime-like cutscenes from the first game. They may have only used those cutscenes for budgetary reasons in the first place, but I would have preferred them to the attempted cinematic cutscenes I'm seeing in Catalyst.
All that being said, I still think this game will provide that same thrill of freerunning that blew me away in the first game. I'm excited.
Great interview. And great map! Definitely a labor of love. I'm thankful for games like Gone Home that think out of the box in their game design. It really worked for me. And who knew it'd make such a great CS:GO map, too?
Maybe you guys were already planning something like this, but what do you think of "acting out" the build-your-own-adventure after x number of entries? You know, setting everything up in Skyrim and guiding Kevin through it?
