"Let's just hope they don't pull a SWTOR"

Someone commented about the trailer in youtube. LOL, cannot be more true. That should be a tagline for all future MMO releases. The biggest potential ends up in an epic failure. How could you go wrong with Star Wars IP? The result is the resignation of Bioware CEO and a whole bunch of layoffs. What a sad end to a company with so much history and accomplishment all thanks to EA.

I still cringe every time I think about SWTOR. Even from beta, I was greeted with such a terrible game engine - stupid Hero Engine. Client was sluggish. Graphics was extremely mediocre for 2013. UI was terrible. Everything is bland and unimaginative. And when I voiced those opinions in forum, people say it is BETA. Couple of months later, nothing changed. Same sluggish engine, client, UI. The only saving grace is its wonderful storytelling ala Bioware. There goes the future of Star Wars Universe.

Now, ESO has the similarities of SWTOR. Supposed Hero Engine, or a heavily modified one. Mediocre graphics. Yes yes, I know most MMO veterans say graphics don't matter, just gameplay. But this is 2013. But graphics and gameplay matters. Good engine design matters. Look what SWTOR brought us ... a client with engine that seems like it feels like a 2-3 years old tech when it was released.

While GW2 won't take the MMO crown anytime away from WoW, it was fairly successful. They developed good gameplay and fantastic graphics. Their client was very smooth and their engine's performance was great out of the launch. Now, they still have some issues when you have 100 people in WvW, but they have accomplished a substantial leap in MMO improvements.

I am a huge fan of Elder Scroll series. I know Bethesda and Zenimax is 2 different companies. Let's hope ESO not be the downfall of Bethesda Softworks or parent company Zenimax Media. So far the reputation of Bethesda has been fairly good, releasing great games, albeit somewhat buggy. We don't need another EA or Activision.
