Being a big Philip K. Dick fan, I was surprised to learn this game existed only last year. I didn't got out of my way to find it and now it's being remastered. Colour me satisfied.
@caiol92: Chapter selection? It is already there, you can look at the army men in the private room and go to the desired chapter by choosing the respective set
The game was released unfinished, it is half-baked, Square is pushing the envelope with this one, bla bla bla...
In all honesty, I really like what they're doing here. I mean, yeah, the game world was pretty uhh... sparse when it first came out, but I think they just had to release it when they did. If they waited to put all of the post-release content into its first release, it would take another year, and people would bitch and moan regardless. My only real gripe that makes me go "what were they thinking?" was denying us the ability to use the whole party from the very start, back in September 29th, 2016 (I think that was the date).
I do not condone their attitude (which is not only S-E doing... What the hell was the release date version of Gran Turismo?!), but it could be way worse: they could have released the game and moved along. I really haven't played much of lately, I beat the game a couple of weeks before the first DLC came out and I just put it down after finishing the main quest. But I will definitely go back to it someday. In fact, I don't think that's possible from a programming standpoint, but if they inserted all 8 DLC episodes into the main quest, I think that would definitely make this game "finished". It wouldn't be perfect (we all have our personal "perfect" Final Fantasy entries and I ain't getting into that), but no, this game isn't bad at all, not even its "first release", and that addition would make a lot better.
@barcaazul: I'll level with you here: I don't know how well they hold up these days if you don't have your nostalgia googles on, particularly the first game. But I ain't taking mine off for sure, cause me loves some Shenmue. However, I think it will receive more of a mixed reaction from newcomers to the series.
@uncle5555: Product placement was a novelty back them and part of the game's charm. I don't really know how the specific case of Shenmue would fare in nowaday's landscape, but it sure detracts from nostalgia
