Only thing in my house that I can find that still uses AA batteries are my tv remote, which gets changed every couple of years, and my xbox1 remote. That's it, everything else has and came with a rechargeable source, not a pamphlet saying "hey, go buy this, it'll bring our inferior product up to date."
As far as the rechargeable batteries you bought lasting longer than a built in, that really shouldn't be an issue. Most people are fairly busy and aren't going to be sitting in front of their tv's for 5+ hours nonstop, so they have time to charge their controllers.
