Place satellites in countries that have high panic - also take missions for those areas. Misisons tend to lower panic for surrounding countries as well. To build more satellites, you'll have to invest in Uplink structures to get more slots.

Okay so I'm new to this series and I'm actually new to this type of turn based game style. I generally tend to steer clear of games with this type of turn based play as I don't really like it all that much but I decided to go ahead and give this game a try anyway. The game is okay but one thing I'm finding frustrating is trying to figure out how not to get shot. Their cover system seems to make no sense at all, I can be in a position with full cover, not in any line of sight of the enemy so far as it appears but still get shot. Current map I'm on, I'm inside a train, the shield (cover) icon says I have full cover, there's no way the enemy outise the train has LoS on me yet he's still able to shoot me. To me this makes no sense at all and it makes it very difficult to know when you have your soldier in a "safe" position.

How can I position my soliders tactically to set up a good assault if I can never know when they're going to be in a safe location. I mean aside from being in a windowless room with one entry point, the cover position I have chosen can't get much more secure but still they can hit me, just don't understand how this is determined. Does cover just not even matter? I mean I know it's dice rolls that determine stuff but I would think if you're in that secure of a cover location their roll chance should be 0%.

Sounds like a random bug if you're really getting shot when in an aliens line of sight. The only way an enemy can't shoot you is if they truly are not in your line of sight - meaning there isn't a little red / yellow alien head icon on the bottom right of the screen. If that icon is showing, than the enemy can shoot you, regardless of your cover. You use cover and certain abilities to lessen incoming damage; keep in mind that a tactical, top down strategy game doesn't have the same rules as an FPS.

Also keep in mind that if YOUR hit percentage is 20%, that doesn't mean the alien has the same %.

Most of the complaints in this thread just have no basis in reality ...

Bollocks they don't. No stats? No time units? 6 man squads? Those are game ruining things. 3 of the best things in the original, ruined.

No they aren't. I consider myself a vet of the original, I've probably put in 500+ hours into it over the last 15 years or so. There ARE stats, just not quite the same stats as the original. There is editable inventory. And now there are abilities that make each solider unique in his/her effectiveness. You can create two very different soliders of the same class. 6 man squads are perfect for the size of the maps - any bigger and it would be too easy to beat each mission. Hell even with 6 it's too much. It creates a whole new layer of strategy that you need to use in order to beat missions and makes each move very tense and nerve racking.

You sound like you haven't played the game at all, or just the hand holding tutorial. After spending a couple hours with the actual game, any of these issues become moot points.

Disagree 100%. I loved the original, still do. But this game improves on it in nearly every aspect. It simplifies, not dumbs down. Multiple base management became a pain in the ass later on in the game. Not worrying about time units is GREAT. 6 units (easily upgradable) is a perfect amount for the size of matches. You can rotate the camera if you can't see something properly. Etc. etc.

And if you want to play a mere graphical update, go play Xenonauts.
