The highest rated game of all time? That was how many years ago?
SolidTy
You know what i liked that response cause you make decent points in that post. But I feel like the fact that the game was realeased over 13 years ago and is STILL number one just makes my point even stronger.Actually it doesn't make your point stronger if you do research. I don't want to interject, I just want to add something I learned a long, long time ago that you either aren't aware of, or you may be overlooking intentionally. I hope of the former.
Those are amazing games to be sure (I own and beat all of them when they were new), but there are far more critical reviewers today by the hundreds than there were back then. If we look at Zelda OoT, it only had 22 reviewers at Metacritic, and even less reviewers if you go even further back to earlier NES or Atari games. You had a dozen, maybe two dozen reviewers tops and that was it back then.
What is more impressive is current games like Galaxy, TLOU, Bioshock Infinite, Galaxy 2, Uncharted 2, GTA4, RE4, Zelda TP, MGS, etc. and games of that ilk that get bombarded with a hundred plus reviews and still stand above 94+.
My point is, don't just look at the metascore, but train your eyes to HOW many reviewers reviewed the title AS WELL. As you should know, the more reviewers you add on a game/movie/product, the higher likelyhood that those averages will lower that product's score eventually.
tl;dr :
What is more impressive?
A 98/100 metascoring game with 5 reviews.
OR
A 96/100 metascoring game with 95 reviews.
The latter is more impressive to me by a landslide considering how after so many reviews, the product still performed admirably. I'm sure these mystery products are both fantastic, but there is more comparing highest rated games of all time than meets the eye.

Please, carry on your discussion, I just wanted to briefly offer counsel on metacritic/gameranking flaws that many younger gamers don't consider at all in these forums. That's why I frown on Greatest Games of all time discussions when they attempt to use these score accumulation websites. I didn't even get into weights (a whole different story.)
Well when your right your right. I was aware of that but i just forgot at the time of my post. Wow i cant believe i forgot about that. But thanks for the heads up. I will not be making that mistake again.
