It's going to rise or fall based on several factors, all of which will play a significant factor... namely price, quality of software and continuous developer support. The third factor is the big question mark, I think.
I hate supporting middlemen... I'd rather give all the money to the developers if I have the option, which I do with Valve, Sony, MS and CD Project Red. Also, I've been all digital this gen with zero exceptions and it's been great. I even got a, "Baby, come back!" email from Gamestop asking why I stopped coming. So yeah, I would still buy the consoles. I haven't inserted a single game disc in my PS4 or Xbox One yet, and I most likely never will.
I just beat Mordor, and while I didn't care for the story... especially the ending, the one thing I prefer greatly over the AC philosophy is that there was just the right amount of side missions. I got 100% and didn't have to go all OCD. AC Unity, by contrast, has a map that looks like the Milky Way galaxy. I tried to get back into the game after abandoning it shortly after launch, and it felt aimless and muddled. I applaud the busy feel of Paris, but it's just too much stuff that isn't that fun to do. And don't even get me started on those chests you have to unlock through external apps/websites... I checked AC Initiates and it was down, now months after launch. Just terrible.
So I prefer Mordor, though AC wins in the story department.... barely.
I bought it due to threads and reviews like this one. It's really pretty but it's not the best looking game by a country mile... I personally thought Mordor, Far Cry and Alien looked better.
