@Utnayan:

How the heck do you know sales have tanked in 2019 when that article was written January 31st of 2019? Do you have anything, IDK, current to link?

I mean, since then they've been number 1 in hardware sales in both NA and Japan every single month, with around a 20% increase YoY in hardware sales. Not to mention they launched an entirely new version of the Switch; the Lite.

The Switch is outpacing every single Nintendo console aside from the DS and Wii, and it's matching the PS4's performance every single year.

Also, BotW2, Metroid Prime 4, and another Animal Crossing are all things that are happening. So I don't know why this was a suggestion at all.

@martintule24: BotW didn't get a 10 because it's a Zelda game. It got a 10 because the reviewer thought it was an incredible game. The majority of other reviewers agreed.

I think that the Bayonetta 2 port was just a bit rushed. It runs 720p in both modes at the same fidelity. I think they just didn’t increase rendering quality at all from portable mode.

Overall though I agree. There are some things the Switch can more easily than the Wii U, but that has less to do with power and more to do with newer architecture. And since all games have to be compatible portably too, the extra power you get docked is only reserved for those increased resolutions and nothing game changing.

I’m not saying that the Switch is extremely more powerful than the Wii U. I’m stating that it is more powerful than the Wii U however.

How not?

It can render the same game with higher average frame rates and higher resolution. How is that not evidence that it’s more powerful?

We can do direct comparisons to show you that it’s more powerful docked and just as (if not slightly more) powerful undocked.

Case number 1: Mario Kart 8 deluxe

Wii U: frame pace issues and 720p resolution

Switch: no framepace issues and 720p undocked and 1080p docked

Assassina Creed 3:

Wii U: 720p max resolution and around 21fps average

Switch: native 1080p docked and 720p undocked average of 5-6fps greater both modes

Zelda BotW:

Wii U: average of 20fps and 720p

Switch: docked 900p and undocked 720p, average of 7fps greater.

There are many other examples, but it’s been shown that the Switch is around 2.5 times as powerful as a Wii U when docked.

Gears 4 released in 2016 and hasn’t had a release since. Halo 5 released in 2015 and won’t have another until 2020.

Forza is the only yearly franchise.

The Switch has more games and exclusives in its third year than either the PS4 or Xbox One has in the same timeframe.

I don’t think there is a single game similar to Candy Crush on the Switch, actually
