Definitely give Mount and Blade: Warband a try. It might look dated but the melee combat in that game is unrivalled. Dead Island has some fun melee combat too, with two control styles to fit your slashing mood. Dark Souls is indeed also a good choice.
If you're in the Painted World, you can try farming the blobs protecting the statue on the main square. They're very slow, so equip a heavy-hitting weapon (preferably modified with fire or lightning) with both hands and go to town on them. Then you can dump points in Resistance if you find that you're getting intoxicated too quickly. If it's any consolation, the actual boss in the Painted World really isn't hard at all. The archer-part in Anor Londo is pretty annoying indeed. You can try getting the Stone Guardian armor set from Darkroot Gardens. It's easy to get and has a very high Poise but I can't remember whether or not Poise actually helps in this situation. Just run up there with your shield up, and don't try kicking him off.
So did anyone else actually have any problems with their order? As soon as I bought Bioshock Infinite (Saturday evening) I got a mail saying that they will need to verify my order and that they will be in touch. It took them 24 hours to send me another mail (that was Sunday evening then) asking my telephone number so that they can call me Monday to verify with me personally about my order. I told them that their security measures are a little extreme and that I don't feel comfortable doing that since it made no sense in my mind (and still doesn't.) I planned on playing it in the weekend which was now for naught since the weekend was over, so they could cancel my order. And they did cancel my order. Along with my Gamefly account. I've already bought on Gamefly before, I've never had any problems and I did not see this coming. I still don't understand what happened and why it happened. Nothing shady has happened with my master card either. Oh well, I guess I'll never be using that site again.
Yes! Thank you, that discount code does indeed work :D Got Bioshock Infinite same as you, but I didn't get a code. Instead it says that my purchase is under review for whatever reason :/ I've used gamefly before, never had this happen. Guess I'll still have to wait a little longer after all :)
The demo looked pretty cool aside from the slow walks and the "hey look at our pretty environment" bits but 1) I will never put money into something before I know what I'm paying for and 2) Dyack is a self-absorbed pompous guy and I won't support anything he's involved with. Besides, 1,35 million is A LOT to ask for. The CryEngine 3 gets some gorgeous results but licensing that beast costs about 1.2 million if I got my numbers right, so the audacity of letting other people buy their expensive game engine for them just baffles me. I'm happy the internet's not having it.
Very tempted to get this but I just have too big a backlog to get through. Besides, the way Square Enix is cutting prices left and right (seems every other week there's a Hitman: Absolution or Sleeping Dogs sale) I think I'll wait a little longer. Still, great price for a game that's only two months old!
Yeah, I've just noticed this too! :D First Chalk Talk and now Awesome User Blogs... It's great to see the community featured so prominently again. Long overdue, but great nonetheless :)
