As of late there has been many innovations that have been introduced to the Video game market such as DLC, DL games, Motion controllers and captures, Networking, and other cool features. Though with all of these great features and innovations comes some questions such as: Will games be DL only? How much better can graphics get? Is B/C an important component of consoles?
IMO there should always be a hardcopy of games. There is nothing like having true ownership of what you own. I think those individuals that know a thing or too about commodities knows what I'm getting, but other than getting all technical I truly love owning a copy and dealing with all of the things that make the game such as some of the headaches such as switching the disc in the middle of gameplay and/or bugs the other perks involved such as Easter eggs and cheap tactics! Those are some of the things I would miss cause of the love/hate relationship that comes with the experience of owning a particular game.
Seriously, how much better can graphics really get? The only thing I could think of is having games run at a consistent 60fps as a standard. I think that would pose a major challenge to developers and definitely spark some more ideas that would truly advance graphics from where they are today, but again I'm not a developer but it is an entertaining concept to think about. Some genres will gain more popularity some will dwindle. I think FPS would take a hit but I see that as a good thing since that genre is just flooded with titles. The horror/sci-fi games would truly shine under this standard. Picture Dead Space or Resident Evil at 60fps. Think about how great the backgrounds and captures would need to be in order to really live up to its predecessors. Or how about a game like Mass Effect 2 or Knights of the Old Republic?
Ahh, the question of questions, the king of nastalgia, is B/C really that important? I say absolutely it is. My reason for saying so is the fact that if consoles are turning out to be like PC's then games should be B/C. To this day, I still play Starcraft as many of you do on your PC. Hell I still play Castlevania SOTN on my PS2. The thing is that B/C is very important moving forward for those that have paid the money for the games and only want to pay it once. Sure, discontinue a product, but make sure that it's always going to be able to be enjoyed cause if not then your game becomes a very expensive rental. Again, I take pride in owning my games.
What do you guys think?
