I assume that at end of charging process the battery is disconnected (in fact it is sustained with very low sustain current), and the LED indicator is powered from USB.

Battery charging is a very broad subject. And as far as my knowledge reaches in this toppic all charging devices are autonomical and very complicated (including DS3). Thing that can negatively affect battery's lifespan are:

  • deep discharge (under 3 - 3,2V per cell. With some batteries the low voltage state is even at 3,4V) - DS3 electronics whach over this parameter, so dont worry,
  • long time storage on fully discharged - the battey will discharge on its own over time. When the battery discharges too deep, it will be unable to charge again (see above) - this parameter isn't monitored, so remember about it,
  • temperature of cell. The higher the tempetarure goes, the faster the battery will die. Temperature can rise on it's own from too high current given or taken from the battery - can happen during charge process, but most probably DS3 electronics whatch over it. But don't place your DS3 near a heat source - this can be dangerous.
  • Lithium batteries begin to get older after 300 cycles (NiMH batteries begin to get older after 1000 cycles), after that each subsequentcyclereduces thecurrent efficiencyand capacity.

Overcharging, like I wrote earlier is absolutely prohibited, in licensed devices like phones, music players, or Dualshock and won't happen.

In other words Dualshock has a built in autonomical charger and safety features that will monitor the overall usage process.

Do not worry. Dualshock is equipped with Li-ION or Li-POL battery. Lithium batteries are very dangerous and can explode if used improperly (you can go deeper in the topic if you feel interested). So like I said - do not worry, because of exposion hazard the electronics responsible for battery maintenance (charging, discharging) must be secured at least by delta algorithm, current and voltage control. There should be also temperature control. All those security mechanisms prevent you from any harm, and if something goes wrong the battery will be immediately cutted off.

In case of lithium batteries overcharging (or charging with too high voltage) createsthe same level ofdanger as shortcutting or piercing - the battery can (and will) ignite or explode. So the electronics that secure overall usage process of battery is multiple times tested before Dualshock (or any other device equipped with lithium batt) even goes out of the factory :)

And here are some videos of modelingbattery packs getting fire:

  • video 1
  • video 2

I forgot to tell you - if your Dualshock charges full it will automatically turn off the charging process, no matter what USB host were you using (PS3, laptop, USB charger). And most of common usage lithium batteries have built-in MOSFET transistor protection (just in case of electronics failure). This transistor will get dammaged (preventing further damage to whole device) if too high current is taken from the battery, or the battery is shortcutted.

Sorry for the lecture, but I tought you'd like to know everything

You can get all devices and peripherial you need from any auction type services, like amazon, ebay, gumtree, etc. Even most electronics or computer equipment shops offer Bluetooth Transmitters and cable adapters ;)

If you click on the yellow text it will open a new page with the equipment you need :)

A stylus with buttons would do wonders

thedude-

A stylus with buttons would require a battery (or at least a wire with minimum 3 lines) or an inductive (at least megnetic) panel under touchscreen... so yeah, dreem on :P

I am sorry, but I think I have bad news for you....

  • First, I'd like to know if you can output sound from PS3 via HDMI.
  • Tell me... After your scren froze, did you unplugged HDMI cable while your PS3 or TV was turned on or plugged into mains in standby mode?

You can read in the manual for how long you should press the turn on button in order to reset your console... If this won't help, than you should give your PS3 on warranty (or repair)...

Edit

Wise man on the internet say, that "it happens sometimes. just keep the power button pressed untill it beeps twice" - source

Yes, same for me... but if you like to use is wirelessly anyway, you can buy a Bluetooth Transmitter and connect it to PS3 Multi AV Cable (jack 3.5mm to RCA adapter needed).

Depends on what would you like to do with the headset. If you plan to listen to music or use bt headset instead of a speaker set than it might be impossible since bt chip in PS3 doesn't support A2DP.

The only thing you can do with your headset is to listen to other peoples chat - source

If you'd like to listen to music however, you should connect your headset to PS3 Multi AV cable and enable multiple output in console menu.

I can agree with that. In my country in a stationaryshop games can cost even $60. And this price can keep itself even a long long time after release. This refers especially to Nintendo games, no excuses if Wii or 3DS. Rarely a Nintendo game gets a price drop.... Remeber it happend for the last time to Metroid Other M... The price dropped in internet shops to about $10, and in stationary shops to $50 :P And the price of Wii console? Today it costs here about $205.

is xenoblade any good?

Woe2spread

Any good...? Xenoblade is the best RPG (not to say overall best) game I ever played. I've spent 200hrs on a single gameplay and didn't squeezed everything out of it :P If you have Wii than you must have Xenoblade.

There are 2 metods for control:

  • Wiimote + Nunchuck
  • Classic Controller / CC Pro

In my opinion Classic Controller is much more convenient, especially when you can get limited edition bundle pack with red Classic Controller Pro :)
