I just killed him at 53, you may even be able to kill him a lot lower than that. he's one of the easier bosses once you learn his moves, and your biggest mistake may be being too greedy with your dmg or trying to tank him with a shield. I just 2-handed a balder sword and fast-rolled his moves(25% weight). only thrusting once before recovering stamina. Equip Eagle Shield if you have it(i love it low weight and it's a Greatshield, upgraded it to +10), for when you must block.it may take a bit to kill him but it's safe. anyways here's his noteable moves and how to dodge, after each only hit him once(or heal with flask) and recover, rinse and repeat:

flipping leap attack(short range fast one): roll left or right, be prepared to do it 3 times, but 99% of the time he just does it twice. though if his first connects(unblocked), he's likely to do the full 3 and you will be stunlocked unable to avoid the rest.

leap attack(long range big damage): wait until he's about to land on you, roll right(left might work), sometimes rolling forward works. attack once, may have to move a few steps forward first to connect with thrust.

straight thrust attack: has huge reach and it can hit twice taking all of your health. always roll right, you will get hit rolling left sometimes.

he has 2-3 different spin attacks: easy to dodge, wait until they're about to connect, roll backwards or sideways. you can even block these with your shield if you like they don't eat a lot of your stamina, though if I remember right he recovers from them fast so be careful and only attack if you're close enough to do so and have enough stamina to roll away after. It's ok to overspend stamina on your retreats, he doesn't follow up attacks too well. 1 of the 3 is even like a spin attack then he leaps away.

lastly his move that buffs him: increases his damage to you quite a bit, nothing else that I can recall. you may be tempted to move in and attack him at that moment since it takes a bit of time, but you're more likely to get caught in the blast radius unless you toss pyromancy or sorcery. myself I slotted magic weapon buff and used that time to buff my weapon.

I have a feeling i'm forgetting somethign if it's important maybe someone else can fill in the blanks. this fight was very frustrating to me because of the run you have to make after dying, I died at least 30 times getting the roll timing right. I suggest just attuning Hidden Body spell skipping the mobs on the way to make it faster. Though you really only have to sneak past the 2 overlooking the bridge you cross outside of Oolacile Sanctuary. After that you can run without aggro hugging the cliff straight to the elevator that spits you out near Marvelous Chester and the colosseum.

I think you're underestimating the gamer population today. Just because many games are easy doesn't mean one that's not won't do well, let alone be "worthless". Look how punishing Dark Souls is next to how popular/critically acclaimed it is.

Since the new Gamespot I get weird performance whenever I start to view any video and it stays that way until I close that tab, even if I stop/pause the video. CPU usage stays at like 25% and that doesn't bother me at all really it's just that it makes everything stutter like once per second. It's super annoying while the video is playing obviously but it even has the little pause every second when I'm scrolling down through the comment section. Changing video quality from lowest to highest doesn't help a single bit. Anyone else have this problem or any idea what could likely be the culprit? please and thanks

i've been farming for this shield killing the black knight that spawns in the tower near the red-eyed boar. hopefully my strategy will work for you, I'm playing on PC so maybe not. can you backup your save game at all? basically just clear that area of the undead, go up the windy stairs to where the BK is sitting, make enough noise to where he sees you but stop short of him chasing you. it creates a checkpoint right there for me, literally right next to him. When you fight him just circle him as fast as you can until he either a) tries to hit you with his shield attack or b) does the drag-greatsword-upward slash attack. that sets him up for an easy backstab, usually takes 2 with drake sword. if he doesn't drop it quit your game, overwrite current save with the backed up save and do it again.

i've done it at least 30 times so far though with 202 item drop rating, bout to just take rsj2's advice. the thing has dropped once for me in the past, from the halberd BK in Darkroot Garden. he'd take much longer to farm though and I'm assuming he's just as likely to drop it as the rest anyway.

i'm usually not bothered either. if it were to make the game easier I don't blame the devs, if that's their intention. Though in Ubisoft's case the game is ridiculously easy already, and well many of their game aspects(not just this franchise) make me think they're just lazy.

if it's any consolation many places with groups of patrolling enemies are designed so most of them are air-killable(is that even a word?). not too flexible though, some you will have to reposition or wait for them to walk under you.
