In case anyone is still curious, I have been in contact with Steam Support about my issues and they have reached out to my bank. I dont know exactly what went on but from the conversations I've had with the customer service reps at my bank and now with Steam... yeah...

Anyway, if you dont want to listen then thats fine. I was just trying to help.

I dont know what people thought I was trying to do here and frankly I dont care any more.

I just hope this all gets resolved.

Take care

I didnt post with no evidence.

I guess either I didnt explain myself properly or you didnt read all of my posts.

Thats ok. I understand.

Looks like the door of assumption swings both ways.

I dont expect you to take me seriously though... ya know... since I didnt do any research before I posted this.

...and I dont blame you for outright dismissing me completely... ya know... having read everything I posted and just decided that I have some sort of malicious agenda here.

Yeah... so... thanks... Tell ya what. Next time I want to try and help other people that might be having the same problem as me or gather more information to see if something is actually affecting a lot more people than just the few I know about I'll just keep it to myself. That way I dont get dismissed and slandered by some anonymous internet guy on a forum with waaaay more posts than me... cause... ya know... the number of posts you have determines how serious you are. Yeah... ok. 'preciate!

Wow... drum up panic? really?

Sheesh.

I'm soooo sorry I brought it up.

If its just me and a couple opf other people then thats cool. Just some kind of weird coincidence.

I hope it is. I just thought I would talk about it a bit.

I guess I should post more often so people will listen to me? I guess?

Yeah... anyway. Whatever.

Yeah I wasnt 100% sure until I talked with another person that had the same thing happen to them.

I talked with my bank on the phone and they told me that it was caused by an online transaction.

I have only had 1 online transaction with that card in the past couple of weeks which actually happened last night when I got Skyrim on Steam.

The other person that had this occur also recently bought something on Steam so that pretty much narrowed it down to near certainty.

Believe me... I wish it wasnt a Steam issue but it looks like it is.

My wife is already chewing my butt off for using our bank card for this so needless to say... today hasnt been a good day for me.

I had a situation today with my bank account which I thought might have been isolated to just me but I am getting reports from other people that the same thing happened to them. All today. I eliminated all other possible sources for this issue and have determined it can only have been caused by Steam purchases.

Apparently, some banks are cancelling debit cards that have been used on Steam recently and are reissuing new cards. I did some prying and got to talk with some reps at the customer service center at my bank and based on those conversations and an email I have seen... it looks like this is a situation developing right now.

As of yet, there is no statement by Valve or any news story on any of the major gaming sites about it.

Here is the email:

Dear Customer;

We believe in acting quickly in our customers' best interest. We were recently informed of a data breach and have reason to believe that your ATM/Debit MasterCard® may have been involved. It is our understanding that only debit card numbers were compromised and no names, social security numbers or personal identification numbers (PIN's) were compromised when the breach occurred.

In an effort to protect your Account, we have restricted your ATM/Debit MasterCard® ending in **** to PIN use only. You are still able to use the Card to withdrawal money through the ATM and make purchases by choosing Debit after you swipe your Card. We will cancel this Card fifteen (15) calendar days from the date of this email.

We have expedited a request to issue you a NEW ATM/Debit MasterCard®, please expect to receive your new Card within the next five (5) business days. Upon receipt, please follow the instructions to activate your Card immediately.

We have reviewed your Account and have no reason to believe that you have suffered any loss as a result of this incident. We encourage you to review your current Account history and contact us regarding any suspicious transactions you may find.

If you have any questions or if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Customer Support at 254-554-6699 or 800-677-9801 for First National Bank Texas or 800-903-7490 for First Convenience Bank, Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CST) for further assistance.
