Just finished the trial version and these are my first impressions. It's worth more than 5, I'd give it a 7. The controls aren't as good as other Fatal Frame titles as they are a bit clunkier. The only thing I wish this game did was have the camera viewfinder on the TV as well as the gamepad, it's a bit distracting switching between the two. However, you can just play the game from the gamepad and not have to worry about switching, it's slightly disappointing, but fixable.

One thing that's made this game a bit more difficult than previous titles is the fact that now you don't just snap pictures of ghosts til they're dead. Instead, when you snap a picture, pieces of the ghost start floating around and you have to snap pictures of them (I counted as many as 4 or 5 on ghosts) before they get absorbed back into the ghost. I didn't play the 4th game, so it could be a completely new mechanic or it could be from the 4th game. I feel this may have been tacked on though as an excuse to use the gamepad to shoot at different angles.

I'm probably gonna wait until the game comes down in price, since it hasn't changed all that much from previous titles. I don't know much of the story, but I thought it was a bit funny that most of the prologue was only told through text. It kind of made it seem like a high quality indie game, rather than a more moderate title like the previous games. I'll probably enjoy this nonetheless.

It'd be pretty cool if they did a remake of 2 similar to the GC REmake. I don't know what would be cool to add though. Perhaps making the Police Station bigger somehow like they did with the mansion, and new puzzles.

@Sheik2 oh and btw, I got this game and I'm enjoying it :)

@Sheik2 Well what's surprising to me is that VanOrd doesn't touch on any positive aspects nor improvements. For instance, the whole new set of melee moves you can use to take out enemies. Or the ability to move while shooting. I haven't played Operation Raccoon City so to my knowledge this is a huge improvement. I don't know about him being paid off, but I do think his review is biased. Perhaps he's an old-school fan like me. I used to be disgruntled where the series was heading, so I just took a step back and just enjoyed the games for what they are now.

It's definitely not my favorite RE, that's a tossup between RE2 and REmake. Capcom is gonna try to carve a spot for themselves in the action/shooter market. If you look at how successful COD franchise is, who could blame them? As I mentioned in another forum, I started playing this game when I was around 12. At that time, Capcom was targeting gamers age 17-maybe 27, fourteen years ago. They're probably not gonna try to target old-school fans because most of the core fans at the time are probably immersed in their careers or family and may have little-to-no time to play games anymore. That generation is no longer a viable market for them. I'm not saying it's right, but that's probably the case.

I just got the game today and I don't agree with this review at all. It's only negative and doesn't focus on anything positive. For instance, I thought the addition of melee moves was useful and you can pick 3 skills to use with the characters like the ability to shake enemies easier, or faster reload times. Quick time events don't bother me too much. Expect to die a lot like other titles. I haven't played the other campaigns yet, Leon's is cool, but VERY difficult to see, even with normal brightness levels. 4.5 is very harsh, I'd say maybe a 7.5-8 so far. At the very least, rent this game, or play with a friend.
