I would say the PS2 has a good 3-5 years left. I haven't heard anything good about PS3 since release and to pay that much for a console even with blue ray you would have to be a really big fan. Even though I hate Xbox 360 I would rather buy that console than a PS3 or even a Wii because it's a better long term investment than an over priced console which hasn't really released a ton of great mind blowing games.
I would pick Age of Empires 2 over 3 but if you're looking for a Warcraft 3 vs Age of Empires 3 than you need to consider one thing, macro crazy game vs resource and unit heavy game. Warcraft 3 is nothing more than who can click the fastest and move their units around the best, it's like playing Tag.
CnC because Warhammer is nothing but a broken game online. Relic isn't exactly a great team who understands the concept of game balance, we can see proof of this from their latest "hit" Company of Heroes which lost a large amount of players during patch 1.4. Same went with DoW, even though that CnC package is out dated go with CnC 3, I suggest you don't even play the old CnC games because mostly only people that played CnC from the start still enjoy 9 year old games.
As someone who has been playing CnC since the get go I would disagree and no I'm not a fan boy because I pretty much shoved Generals in the trash because of what EA did. If you take the CnC 3 demo, it was garbage right out of the bag. Of course once I got the Kane Edition to play as Scrin and really get the full experience of the game I was hooked. Of course there are some bad and good features to this game. Pros: - Same old CnC old fans will love. - Still has Online Play (What made CnC a great RTS online) - Some what good visuals (I would agree with anyone stating the visuals as out dated, as most graphics are because of the time the games got developed) - Large amount of AI options - Smart AI - A lot of maps. Cons: - EA worked on this game. - Videos are cheesy expect for Kane (He makes those cut scenes seem so real) - Missions are nothing to get hyped out about - Balance issues - Nothing really new here (They're re using game concepts that are over a decade old) - EA has no idea what skill is required to make an RTS (Patch on the first day of release, umm wounder why?) We all like different games, however if you're not sure about this game wait for a year or two before buying it. You can also play it from a friends house if they own the game. I don't suggest wasting $60 on a game you're not sure about, games cost enough money as it is.
I find this stupid, they want $15 a month but still require you to buy the game plus the expansion. Nothing worse then greedy companys like Blizzard who already has made millions from this game alone each month.
I can't fully recall because that was long ago but I think it was either D-Quest (Great Dos RPG) or Pool for Windows v3, however the first game I really remember playing was Red Alert. Only game I really enjoyed playing for hours on end.
