If Miyamoto was involved in Skyward, it would make MGS4 look like trash. So, Miyamoto.

I don't do thrift shops or flea markets very often but I clearly should 'cos I'm getting jealous at the deals you're finding!!

Anyways I saw a loose PSone (the remodeled one) at a local Goodwill for $6 a while ago, wasn't sure if it worked but I bought it anyways since $6 is not bad, even for a faulty unit. Turns out it Castlevania Symphony of the Night was just sitting in the disc tray the whole time; both it and the system worked fine. It's no Chrono Trigger or anything but that's a good $40 value for six bucks.

Also don't ask me how this happened... but I'm pretty sure I won an ebay auction a few years ago for all three Megaman X SNES games for around $200. I don't remember how much exactly but I'm not one to spend more than $250 all at once on ebay. Not a bad deal I'd say since MMX3 alone can go for $200, and X2 for around $100.

When we had a SNES way back in my early years I remember three fighting games: a Street Fighter, a Mortal Kombat (can't remember which versions)... and TMNT Tournament Fighters. I don't remember which one I actually played first but I'd like to say TMNT because I remember that one most fondly. It was my favorite because I found the music and graphics most memorable, we had the live action Turtles movie which I also loved, and I remember it was the only fighter where I could beat the first dude in arcade mode. Spamming that X button... good times :p

I always like to play whatever games I can on original hardware, not just for collecting but also for the authentic experience. I also play reproductions, but only of games not released in my region such as Alien Soldier on Genesis or Star Fox 2 on SNES. I would like to have some of my consoles modded for better video eventually, but I haven't found the time or money just yet.

Aside from that I also have games on Steam that I don't care to buy the original console of, and I play some "programmable series" NES games like excite bike or wrecking crew on Virtual Console because they actually save custom levels, which you can't do in other emulators or even on the original North American release, because you need the Famicom tape recorder thing to save tracks on the cartridge games..

I think it's safe to say this entire generation has been terribly disappointing.

The lack of good reason to even buy them.

The purchase of a home console was once justified by the low cost, ease of access, and of course exclusives.

Now the ease of access is pretty much out the window. My friend was trying to show me some extra map packs for an Xbone game (Titanfall I think it was but I wouldn't know) and he just couldn't get them to load. It either kept giving him an error or he was just unable to load them so we got fed up ad moved on to the Wii U. We popped in Pikmin 3 and ended up waiting like 20 minutes for an update. Why would we put up with this crap to play games on platforms that are (technically) far inferior to PC?

Consoles are still cheaper (generally) than gaming PC's but the sad thing is Steam is giving home consoles a run for their money and we all need PC's for work anyways. Console designers are trying to give consoles new non-gaming related features but this takes the focus off gaming, and in the end they're only trying to make a lowball computer.

Consoles will always have exclusives of course but it's much wiser for dev's to digitally release a game on steam rather than manufacture game disks on platforms that just aren't as great in number as they once were. As these trends continue int further generations, consumers will run out of reasons to buy home consoles, and the developers will abandon them simply because there aren't nearly as many of them as there are PC's. And PC hardware companies are striving to make gaming PC's as noob-friendly as possible, so there'll soon be more PC gamers (hardcore or casual) than ever before.

If consoles don't make the jump to 4D next gen (if that's even possible), 9th gen will be the last, and it won't even be epic.

Check out the Gaming Historian, he does more of history lessons on the developers and systems than playthrough's/speedruns but I find it fascinating sometimes.

This thing could be a VR headset for all we know. Or it could be totally different, so it's hard to say.

But just because it's a successor to an 8th gen console doesn't mean it HAS to be 9th gen. Looking back at ancient history, Atari released the 5200 because the Atari 2600 couldn't compete power-wise with the Colecovision or Intellivision, and the 5200 is considered to be the same generation while still being more powerful than the 2600.

Why choose between this and the ambassador games when you can get both?
