In recent years, we have experienced the proliferation of videogames that include, as their primary game mode creating in-game content. While there are books that have examined many aspects of these games, it is vital to examine the potential ways to make money that arise from their environment. Through our ongoing ethnographic research we came across a vivid commissioning market within the Minecraft community of creators. Our findings point out the three principal players in this market: the customers who own Minecraft servers as well as the contractors who handle the clients' orders of Minecraft maps and the developers who are responsible for the creation of these maps. Our research has revealed that the primary product at stake is not in-game content, as one would expect but rather the process of creating it. These findings reveal that the current structure of Minecraft is influenced by commissioning - a well-organised process initiated and sustained only by the community of the game. Moreover 360 degrees all the way around challenge the notion that content creation in gaming settings is free-labour that is exploited by the developers of these games.
