@warmblur: 7th gen ruled. It was the last vestige of the creative era in gaming. I think the many, many commercial failures from 7th gen caused game companies to focus on having that one successful franchise they can milk forever. It's good for gamers though, because there's a lot of unknown gems in 7th gen and they're all cheaper than dirt!

@Litchie: I'm saying each company needs to have a USP, otherwise there's no motivation for a consumer to purchase their products instead of another company's comparable product. For example, Xbox One and PS4 are very similar, but Xbox has the Elite controller, so it's the better choice. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is another USP that no rivals have matched. Nintendo has their USPs as well. I'd consider their IPs to be their own USPs since the 1st party games are the only reason to buy Nintendo hardware. Nintendo is aware of this. Why would anyone EVER want to play a multiplat game on the Switch? Nintendo has always made the worst consoles and the worst controllers, worst online services, worst everything but somehow they really push their gimmicks hard enough to get customers to buy the hardware. "What's this?! I can play GTA3: Definitive Edition on the bus now?! Take my $350!"

Trophies definitely add to the gameplay experience for me. On PS4, I bought the HD remaster of some old favorites: Twisted Metal Black, Cel Damage and GTA3. I've been playing these games for decades now, and in addition to having them now in HD, trophies are a very welcome addition. Trophies add extra challenge to the games, which makes them more challenging and I get more "bang for my buck". It's fun to have the added challenge of unlocking trophies, even if it's an old game you've played already. Sometimes I learn things about the games I didn't previously know!

I can still experience the same thing in the 20s. It's kind of the reason we play video games, right? Because you can get so absorbed in the game that you forget everything about your life. It's easier to do as a child, but still completely possible for an adult to do too.

It was the worst console of its time. That's not to say it's a bad console, it's just the library was small and the controller was awkward for anything besides 3rd party games. I only played 1st party games on my Cube; most gaming was done on PS2 or Xbox. Xbox by FAR had the best 3rd party games (in most cases) because the Xbox was significantly more powerful, so naturally I'd play multiplat games on Xbox. Not a single GTA for the Cube, how pathetic! I think the only reason Simpsons Hit N Run is so nostalgic is due to GC not having any GTA games, so Simpsons was the closest option.

I already have a TV-only Switch. It's called the Wii U.

6/10. Mostly due to the lackluster new controller. I was hoping we'd have more buttons this gen, and the "Back Button Attachment" for the DualShock 4 got me excited for the possibility of the PS5 having new buttons (with the PS4 attachment for compatibility?). The haptic feedback is a cool new feature, but I'll admit - it's a gimmick just like the Xbox One's vibrating triggers were, and it's not game-changing. Speaking of "game-changing", the PS5 isn't enough of a jump from the PS4. The DualSense is just an enhanced DualShock 4, and the graphics are noticeably better but not mind-blowing. There was a drastic improvement in graphics with all previous generations, but this time, despite a 7 year gap, Sony hasn't put much effort into making a revolutionary design. I think that's why they're pushing those haptic triggers so much, because it's really the only standout feature of the PS5. I know we'll eventually get some killer apps for this console, but it's not been a very remarkable first 2 years this gen. I like my PS5, but I'm not "Wowed" by it as much as I was this far into all the previous systems.

My physical PC game collection is WAY too big to list. I've got boxes full of PC games from floppy disks to CDs to DVDs. I was really late to this whole "Steam" thing. I still prefer physical media, especially when I can play the game right off the disk.
