How is it about greed? How is implementing an online requirement that (while quite FUBAR at the moment) actually does serve its purpose of stopping pirates getting any extra money out of anybody? There no monthly free, there's no (optional) DLC or microtransactions yet. So they're greedy because you don't get to steal it? I'm confused. People love to shout "greeeeeeeed!" from the rooftops. But nobody's actually forcing you to buy anything outside of the initial product.
Everything with gamers lately is like walking into a fucking 99% rally.
I'll admit I'm not in love with the notion of having to log in to play SimCity. I've historically enjoyed these games offline. But I'm not going to sit here and thumb my nose at a system that actually does a pretty good job of stopping theft. That and there are alternate purposes for the game being online besides DRM. I'm sure all of this connectivity is quite neat when it's actually working properly.
And like I said before, had the game launched flawlessly, I doubt everyone would be having a hissy-fit. There's probably a pretty good game underneath all of this controversy.
@david1230 @chrisbingle @rrhammer Jesus. Okay. DRM doesn't automatically mean "always online", it means Digital Rights Management, and represents a lot of things. Steam, is basically DRM incarnate, for example. It's a buzzword and people use it too much.
These games had launch problems because there's a massive surge of a katrillion people all trying to log in at the same time when there isn't enough servers to support them. Why is there insufficient servers? I really don't know. Maybe it actually is difficult to gauge these things. But despite EA's reputation, they're not trying to be malicious.
@rrhammer It's not really anything like your analogy. PC only games have a high risk of being pirated on a large scale.
Was having an always online requirement the best mean to curb piracy? I don't know. But if the servers were working tip-top from day-one, I doubt everyone would be having this crazy meltdown.
Granted it's not completely realistic, and it's always perfectly clean looking and shiny regardless of how much mud and water Lara has been crawling through, but it's most probably the best looking hair I've ever seen in a game.
Runs at about 40-50 fps on a 7870 with an FX4100. Totally acceptable.
Btw, loving all of these "omg it r not 100% perfect. FAIL" comments.
