Hi, thanks for thr prompt reponses.

I believe I need to upgrade the 'whole' case, because my 6+ year old PC (equipped with a Geforce 6800GT) freaked out and lately started reacting very strangley! It has an Intel 865GLC mainboard with an Intel 2.4 HT processor. Repairing it is not worth it. I still used to play some good 2005-2006 games! It's dead now... :(

So in a nutshell I would probably need to purchase a new mainboard, processor implied (AMD or Intel?), Video Card and RAM. Probably I would also need a new case (not sure).I hope to re-use my DVD Burner and the 500W Power Supply. I think I will be purchasing my mainboard from the following retail outlet. Can someone be so kind as to go through this list and suggest one which is ideal for a 'medium' gamer. Many many thanks.

Thanks

Dear all,

Can someone advice what 'elements' and 'features' should I look in a mainboard? I consider myself a 'medium' gamer but I'm finding it difficult in choosing the ideal one. What would a gamer look for when purchasing one? Should I go for a mid-range mainboard and spend the rest on a better video card?

Thanks

Hi All,

I have a P4 2.4GHz system with HT technology currently equipped with a GF6200 Ultra and 300W Power Supply. I would like to ask you, from you own experiences, what would be the maximum possible video card which I could installed on a 300W Power Supply? I know I may have my PSU upgraded by a few bugs but would like to leave that as my last option since anyway I will be upgrading my system altogether in a year's time. For example would a GE6600 GT overload the PSU during intense gaming?

The complete specs are hereunder:-

P4 2.4GHz with HT technology
1 DVD Reader
1 DVD Writer
1 SATA Hard Drive
1 Floppy Drive
Fire-Wire Card
3 x 256MB DDR Memory modules
1 Case fan
17 inch CRT monitor
Max of 3 simulataneous USB devices.

Thanks

As far as I know the anisotropic filtering does not effect the texture qualty as such. It is used to smoothen out the transition between mip-maps. Of course, the more the multiplier the smoother would be the transition between textured mip-maps.

Dear all,

Please accept my apologies in case I am posting this topic in the wrong forum.

I have a very strange problem with my 5.1 sound vis-à-vis 3D games. The situation is as follows, I have a 5.1 sound card plugged to a 5.1 speaker system. Within windows I have no problems with obtaining 5.1 surround sound because both the windows' control panel and the sound card's control panel are set to 5.1 configuration.

When it comes to gaming, strangely enough, even tough the game's configuration is setup to use 5.1 sound, only the 'introduction' part is played in pure surround, from the menu onwards and including the in-game sound it switches to stereo (utilizing only 2 speakers of the system)!!

It should be made clear that this problem started to happen one to two months ago. Prior to that, all installed games used to maintain the 5.1 sound as setup within windows.

Somehow, something, has changed which is forcing the 3D engine to switch to stereo!! One interesting clue which I may add is that some time ago I had temporarily switched the control panel to 'headphones' since I had to momentarily replace my 5.1 speakers with a pair of headphones.

Regards

What are your computer specs? Based on this we can better recommend a video card that makes full use of your computer power. For example on my P4 2.4GHZ computer equipped with a GeForce4 MX 4000 card I could play 2005 games with medium settings, however CPU usage never exceeded the50%-60% even during itensive gaming. Hence I opted for GeForce6 which still my CPU could easily handle....now my CPU usage is always reaching the 70%-80%.

If you have a low spec computer it won't make sense buying one of the latest AGP video cards cause it would just sit there almost doing nothing, your computer won't even have the power to drive the video card's full capabilties.

Of course in anycase probably you won't be able to turn on any fancy features like Anti Aliasing, but still you should be able to play some decent games with up to 1024X768 resolution.

Hi All,

I tried posting this question in the "Silent Hill 3" specific forum..but I didn't get any  feedback :(. Forgive me if this is not the right place for asking such questions.

My problem is the following:

It seems that the Splitworm boss can only be defeated by firing bullets at his head. Now I am in a very awkward situation, no ammo and very low on health! Does this means I am screwed and need to restart a new game? Unfortunatley the saved games also takes be in a "no ammo" situation ( I was dump enough to keep overwriting the same 4 save game slots!!). Since I don't really wish to start from the beginning are there any other means of killing this boss? If no, Is there a temporary cheat or something that reloads by handgun and/or health?

Thanks
